Rocky Point

Located in the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora, Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point) offers beautiful sandy beaches on the Sea of Cortez. As it is the beach closest to Phoenix and Tucson, it is often affectionally known as "Arizona's beach."

Just an hour from the Lukeville, AZ border crossing into Mexico, this once quiet fishing town now welcomes visitors year-round from across the southwestern U.S., northern Mexico, and beyond. Retirees from the U.S. and Canada also favor the town and enjoy its vacation rentals on longer, more relaxed stays.

Situated on the Sea of Cortez, summer months tend to be humid (particularly August and September), while fall and spring have near perfect weather to match excellent swimming sea temps. Winters in Rocky Point are bright and sunny, though temperatures can drop into the 40s at night. It's a fine time for brisk morning beach walks and extended golf outings.

Whether you prefer fishing, hitting the sand dunes, shopping, or just walking around and enjoying the weather, Rocky Point has retained its charm while continually growing into the top beach destination in northwestern Mexico.
