Every fall, the rugged beauty of the Greater Altar Desert and the shores of the Sea of Cortez call ultra-runners to the Gran Carrera del Desierto (Great Desert Run) in Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco).

This unique multi-day trail running event draws participants from across Mexico, the U.S., and beyond. Runners experience a stunning mix of sand dunes, dry marshes, coastal estuaries, and desert landscapes where the Sonoran Desert meets the sea.
