Smith Mountain Lake provides the perfect environment to enjoy your favorite watersport or branch out and try something new. Whatever your choice, you’ll have a wide selection of watersport equipment available to you when stopping in at Smith Mountain Wake in Moneta. The second you walk into the shop, you’ll be reminded of all the different things you can experience and maybe a few you never even thought about before. That’s what happened to us on our last visit. After looking around, we decided to skip a few of our regular activities and learn something new.
About
Smith Mountain Wake is locally-owned and operated by true watersport enthusiasts, and that enthusiasm is contagious. Within a few minutes inside, my courage and excitement excelled, propelling me to seek out the experts in the shop to determine what to try next. I decided to start with paddleboarding. With that, I requested a quick training session and rented the paddleboard, paddle, and life jacket for just $60 for a full day.
As a full-service watersports recreation shop, Smith Mountain Wake sells and rents watersports equipment and apparel while also offering training by experienced professionals. The shop carries a large selection of wakeboards, water skis, paddleboards, tubes, apparel, sunglasses, and more.
There are always a few experts on-site to help, answering questions and providing safety tips, as well as offering those lessons and hands-on training. The staff also ensures you are fitted properly, whether you are a novice or seasoned pro, with all the latest gear. The shop itself sponsors all kinds of events with pro riders right here at Smith Mountain Lake, so you may chance upon one of those if you time your visit just right.
A few steps away is the lake, so you can launch right away and stay gone for a few hours or all day.
Smith Mountain Wake is open daily, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Monday – Saturday), and on Sundays, 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Smith Mountain Wake is located in Moneta, in the Bridgewater Plaza. It is near the Halesford Bridge and Bridgewater Marina & Pier. Car parking is available, and day docks are nearby for those arriving by boat. The physical address is 16440 Booker T. Washington Hwy, Moneta, VA.
The area surrounding Smith Mountain Wake is filled with several unique shops and restaurants you’ll want to try, including Mosie’s, Mangos Bar & Grill, Mexico Viejo Tequila Bar, and the Pizza Pub.
Rental Services
Whether you’re only visiting the area or deciding whether to invest in your own equipment but are not quite there yet, Smith Mountain Wake offers rental services to help meet your needs. Rental options are similar to what they sell in the shop and include the following:
