Palm Springs, California, located in the Sonoran Desert, has long been a resort destination. From the natural hot springs to the fantastic golf, the area is beautiful and truly full of things to see and do.
Its' popularity as a resort town dates back to the 1950s when Hollywood stars would flock to the area as a trendy place to spend get away from the hustle and bustle of
Los Angeles. Whether coming for the activities and attractions in the city or to explore the surrounding Coachella Valley for hiking and horseback riding, Palm Springs is truly a destination like no place else.
Take a closer look at everything Palm Springs has to offer.
This popular resort town boasts an average of 354 bright and sunny days a year. The Palm Springs area is also home to more than 130 golf courses, which has earned it the nickname the Golf Capital of the World. Palm Springs also has plenty of other activities and attractions to choose from, including horseback riding and hiking. This town is also known for its world-class restaurants and high-end boutiques.
October is, arguably, the best month to visit Palm Springs. The weather is sunny and warm (but not too hot). And because October is part of the shoulder season, large crowds have not yet descended upon the town. The cost of accommodations is also typically lower during this time than it is during the high season, which runs from January to May.
In the summer months, you'll want to pack shorts, short-sleeve or tank tops, and bathing suits. Women will also want to bring a few lightweight dresses. It's also a good idea to bring a lightweight sweater or top for the evenings or for over-air-conditioned buildings.
During the winter months, you may want to add a few long pants and long-sleeve shirts, as well as a jacket for the evenings. Deserts lose heat at night, and so Palm Springs can get surprisingly cool after dark.
The only hot springs that are actually located in Palm Springs can be found in the Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza. There are, however, other hot springs in the greater Palm Springs area.
Many movies have been filmed in Palm Springs, including but not limited to: Diamonds are Forever, American Gigolo, Ocean's Eleven, Mission Impossible III, and a Star is Born (2018).
The average temperature in the winter (December to February) is 40 degrees F at night to about 75 degrees F during the day.
Palm Springs is located in the desert, so it gets hot. The average temperature during the summer (July through September) is 101 degrees F during the day and 70 degrees F at night.
A number of factors can influence the cost of a vacation rental property in Palm Springs, including location, amenities, and whether you'll be visiting during the high, low, or shoulder season. Vacation rentals in Palm Springs also range in size from luxury condos to sprawling vacation villas that can comfortably fit several families.
Our favorite money-saving travel hack: many families will plan their travel together so they can pitch in on a single luxury home. When going this route, many families have been able to experience larger luxury properties with more included amenities, all while the total bill often ends up costing less per person than it would on a single-family vacation, it's a win-win.
A two-bedroom condo during the off-season, for example, may cost $175 a night. But that same condo during the high season could be $300-plus. Prices can really escalate -- sometimes doubling -- during special events, such as Coachella.
Another example -- a five-bedroom villa with a private pool will typically start at about $500 a night during the low season and might be $1,000 or more a night during peak rental times.
