Clean and pleasant stay.
It was nice to be right on the lake. But the house was not very clean and the water in the house smells.
This is a lovely home.It has beautiful views of the lake from many of the rooms. The open kitchen living room area is very spacious. The bedrooms are very nice.It would be nice if it had updated bathroom fixtures, especially in the downstairs bathroom The game room was a lot of fun.And we enjoyed using the screened porch every evening. There are not TVS in every bedroom,Which would be a nice addition. We spent so much time on the lake. It didn't matter though!
This past summer, my family and I gathered at Lake Anna, as we do every year, renting a home to celebrate the end of the season. Unfortunately, this year’s rental was deeply disappointing, and not at all what was promised in the photos or description. Upon arrival, we were overwhelmed by an overpowering carpet freshener smell so strong it was difficult to breathe. I attempted to air out the house, but the windows did not function properly and many lacked screens, making this impossible. The screened-in lanai, advertised online as a cozy highlight, had clearly not been cleaned in months. It was filled with spiderwebs, debris, and dirty furniture. I spent hours cleaning upon arrival—removing webs, lifting cushions, and sweeping—so that my family could use the space. The outdoor furniture was broken, moldy, and unusable. I even had to bring indoor cushions outside just to have somewhere clean to sit. Instead of enjoying our limited two-day stay—taking boats out at night or kayaking as planned—I was forced to spend my precious vacation time cleaning and making the home barely presentable. Additional concerns included: • A leaking downstairs toilet. • An upstairs tub with a constant drip. • A soaking wet, rust-stained towel left in a bathroom, suggesting neglect. • The overall lack of maintenance, from the carpets to the broken outdoor furniture. Although we enjoyed docking our boats and using the fire pit, the condition of the house was unacceptable. The property clearly needs significant updates and care before it should be rented at this price point. When I raised concerns, the agent’s response was dismissive, offering to send cleaners the next day—by then, our time was already lost. A $150 refund on a $3,000 two-night stay is not justified given the state of the property and the disruption to our vacation. I run several businesses myself, and I know this is not how guests or clients should be treated. At this price, I expect a property that is clean, maintained, and accurately represented online—not one that requires hours of cleaning upon arrival. This experience was disappointing, and I hope steps are taken to ensure future guests do not encounter the same issues.
Vacasa doesn't care about the safety and well being of your family. We booked a whole week at this home and I didn't even keep my family there 24 hours before we left and took the 5 hour drive back home as this property was beyond unsanitary and dangerous and it was clear Vacasa wasn't going to do anything to fix it. There is black mold on the ceiling, mouse poop behind every bed, BOTH water filter modules were saying they needed immediate service and the filter sight glass was brown and full of goop, the water did not smell right nor did it it taste right, the air filters have about an inch of dust clogging them, bed linens all had stains, dog fur, and mystery crusty objects stuck to them, bugs both alive and dead all throughout the house, nothing has been power washed in years and so all the exterior steps are like slippin' slides and are extreme slip hazards, and lastly smoke detectors are not properly installed, just placed on top of cabinets or just straight up missing in spots where they are required which is not only a MAJOR life safety issue but a violation of National Electric Code. And that is just the sheer life safety/health risks revolving around this home not including the laundry list of other issues revolving around this home.
The location is fabulous, and basically what you are paying for here. Echoing other reviews, the dock and view is what this rental is all about. Good sized, perfect for swimming/diving/fishing, and the use of the paddleboards/canoe is a huge bonus and greatly appreciated. Then there's the house.... The house itself is desperate for some love. Outdated can still be nice if cared for, but the exterior neglect and interior uncleanliness and disrepair made for more work than an expensive vacation rental should require. As mentioned in other reviews, the gutters STILL need to be cleaned (mosquito haven!), and the filthy windows detract from the incredible views. If you plan to drink beverages from cans/bottles you are good. Otherwise, bring drinkware/solo cups. There are plenty of mugs, but only 2 water glasses and 5 juice glasses. Also bring extra kitchen towels. You get 2. Additionally, if you plan on cooking, they have great cast iron, but zero potholders. Save your fingers and byo. The consensus from our group was the dock/water area was 5 stars, the house a 2, making our overall vacation stay here a 3.
