About

The Familia Coffee Roasters has two locations, one in Arcata in the Creamery District, which I visited, and a second location in the Vance Hotel. No matter which you visit, you'll enjoy very fresh and light cuisine that's full of flavor and an excellent choice for the start of any morning.

Truly a special little café, it offers fantastic coffee options. There is a small menu of breakfast items along with a few fun items, including soups and salads. Most of the ingredients are very local and fresh, and everything is made to order for you. That makes it the perfect, non-busy stop for a great cup of coffee.

Getting To Familia Coffee Roasters

Familia Coffee Roasters is located at 1350 9th Street. It's easy enough to get there, just a few minutes from Route 255 or from K St. There are a number of shops in the area to explore while there, too.

It is a very unassuming little shop that looks like it is in a creamery. It's beautiful, bright, and airy inside. There's a small counter to order at (be sure to see what's in the display for an extra treat). You can choose from a range of goodies most days. The area is perfect for grabbing something to go. If you want to spend some time here, you can step outside the beautiful doors to a patio area with several picnic tables. It's a great place to meet people for a short conversation over a cup of coffee, or it could prove to be your secret location to start the day.

Know Before You Go

The menu changes often! There are seasonal items added. They also offer a wide range of specials from time to time. If you do not see them listed, be sure to ask about them, as this is a great way to try something new.

If you are tired of the busy coffee shops where you will spend 30 minutes waiting in line, visit this location instead. It's smaller, lesser known, but still the perfect place to get a great cup of coffee and a sandwich in the morning. I highly recommend a visit at least once if you are in the city.

It's a small location that has a lot to offer. More so, the prices here are significantly less expensive than in many other areas (including the big coffee shops).

What's on the Menu at Familia?

The menu is simple and just ideal for those who want something that is filling but not heavy. Let's start with the breakfast, which is served all day long (and definitely worth it). The meals include a breakfast sandwich and the Familia Tacos, which includes pico, pickled onion, avocado, and salsa with your choice of vegan additions like sweet potatoes or chorizo and egg, which is what I ordered. It is bursting with flavor, and the queso on top is perfect.

They also offer toast. It's a unique little treat that is ideal in the afternoon for a pick me up or when you want something tasty and sweet. You can build your own by adding whatever toppings you would like or choose from one on the menu. The Caprese toast, avocado toast, and banana and almond butter were the options on the menu the day we arrived.

There is also a soup and salad option for those looking for something a bit more unique. They offer pork pozole, which is a Mexican soup with pork and hominy in it that's topped with lime, onions, cabbage, and radish. It's full of flavor.

Familia Coffee Roasters is known for its coffee, and while they don't have a huge menu, everything is fantastic. I tried the Espresso and Americano. Both are freshly roasted and have robust flavors. It's the time of coffee that will wake you up and invigorate you but also leaves a pleasant taste in your mouth. They also have cortado, cappuccino, and latte. There are some specialties, too, including a fabulous honey lavender latte that is sure to warm you up.

Everything is made in house with local and organic ingredients, too.

Familia Coffee Roasters: Our Suggestions

Get the Caprese toast if you're looking for a filling lunch. It is a fantastic sourdough spread that has pesto, fresh mozzarella, basil, and heirloom tomatoes on it. You can even add prosciutto to it. It's the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

Get the breakfast sandwich for something a bit more hearty. It is a toasted sesame bun that has an egg patty, avocado, your choice of ham or turkey, and cheese on it with fresh garlic aioli. You can also add greens to it or other items. It is so fresh but so tasty, too, especially with the salty bite of the ham. It's filling and the perfect option with a great Latte.
