About

Parked on the sun-bleached tarmac near Heber City is a collection of warbirds flown during WWII and subsequent conflicts. Visiting these glorious fighters and bombers at the CAF Utah Wing WWII Aviation Museum will be educational and awe-inspiring.

Each aircraft has been meticulously refurbished by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), chartered in Texas as a 501c3 non-profit corporation in 1961. While the museum is only open on Saturdays from May 1 to October 31, there is so much to see firsthand that it is worth visiting.

The museum is home to a wondrous collection of vintage aircraft that served in World War II. With historical artifacts and personal accounts from combat veterans, the museum transports you back to the 1940s.

Each plane has been restored to flying conditions and has a unique story of its role during WWII, like bombers that could carry payloads and agile fighters. The museum offers an in-depth look at the machines that played a significant role in the war's outcome. You'll also walk away with an appreciation of the pilots' bravery and contributions to the war effort.

The museum is near other Heber City attractions, making it easy to combine multiple activities in a day. Continue your exploration into history with a visit to the Heber Valley Railroad, or after an ATV tour with Uinta Recreation, visit the aviation museum.

Whether an aviation enthusiast, history buff, or curious about the past, the CAF Utah Wing WWII Aviation Museum is a must-visit.

CAF Utah Wing WWII Aviation Museum: Fun Facts & Cool Features

A fun fact is that the CAF museum was initially known as the Confederate Air Force. The name was changed in 2001 to accurately reflect their mission.

By far the standout feature of the museum is the stunning array of aircraft. Each plane symbolizes key historical aspects, some even dating back to the war era! Equally impressive is their continued quest to refurbish these old war birds. This ensures they will be around for future generations.

Some aircraft are still airworthy and occasionally take to the skies, offering a rare and thrilling spectacle. There's nothing like hearing the piston engines roar to life and watching the plane rise off the tarmac. Speaking of flying, the museum offers flights on some of the aircraft. Give them a call for more information.

The CAF Utah Wing WWII Aviation Museum also has special events yearly, so check the website for more information. And with entertainment nearby, you can combine a visit with a movie at Avon Theater or a play at Timpanogos Valley Theatre. The combinations are endless!

The museum's commitment to preserving these historical treasures in flying condition is a testament to its dedication to bringing history alive. Adding a visit while on your Heber City vacation offers an immersive look at aviation history.
