The conflict led to the founding of the military post, Fort Lauderdale, in 1838.

To reach Colee Hammock Park from downtown Fort Lauderdale, here are the step-by-step directions:

• Start from downtown Fort Lauderdale and head east on E Broward Blvd toward S Andrews Ave.
• Turn right onto SE 3rd Ave.
• Continue onto SE 4th Ave.
• Use the left 2 lanes to turn left at the 1st cross street onto Las Olas Blvd.
• Turn right onto SE 15th Ave.
• Continue onto SE 16th Ave.
• Turn right onto E Las Olas Blvd.
• Turn left onto SE 15th Ave.
• Finally, turn right onto Brickell Dr, and you will find Colee Hammock Park on your right.
