El Barrio

El Barrio is Spanish for "downtown" and can also imply "ghetto" in English slang. The name fits the scenario local restaurateurs faced in 2011 when business associates asked, "Why open a restaurant downtown?"

It was a valid question. During this timeframe, downtown wasn't as revitalized as it is today. Despite the naysayers, the owners went with their gut instinct, and the risk paid off with big dividends. 

While the owners acknowledge that they and the cuisine are not Mexican, they nonetheless serve modern Latin-inspired cuisine with a touch of Southern charm. Examples include The Cuban Madam brunch sandwich and the Veggie Enchiladas with house-made mole sauce; their dishes cater to a diverse palate. 

The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, local ingredients, while the bar features an eclectic mix of Mexican beers, wines, and show-stopping margaritas and cocktails.
