Getting There

To reach Great Northern Mountain from Whitefish, follow these directions:

  • Take US 93 S for about 2 miles.
  • Turn left onto MT 40 E for 6.5 miles before it turns into US-2.
  • Follow US-2 for 8 miles until you get to Martin City.
  • Take a right onto Old US-2, which will turn into Central Ave for a half mile.
  • Continue onto S Fork Rd E for another 5 miles.
  • Take a slight left to stay on E Side Rd/S Fork Rd for another 10.5 miles.

Cost

Hiking Great Northern Mountain is free. However, overnight camping and extended backpacking trips require permits and fees.
