About Silverthorne, CO

The town of Silverthorne, Colorado, sits in Summit County, nestled under Ptarmigan Peak with Buffalo Mountain, Mount Silverthorne, and Red Mountain all situated around this community. It’s home to about 3,900 people today, but long ago, it was an important mining town, though little gold was found in this area. It also served as a camp for those who built Dillion Dam.

While its history is interesting, what makes Silverthorne so special is its alpine scenery. It is an incredible place to hike, especially to get the vast mountain ranges around it in view. The area is also known for the ski resorts nearby, which create the perfect outdoor playground for anyone visiting Colorado. Silverthorne is also a place to come when you want to enjoy elegant accommodations, exceptional cuisine, and some of the best shopping in the region.

Located just off I-70, Silverthorne is easy to get to from the surrounding area. Many come to spend the weekend skiing or to take an excursion into the mountains during the warmer months. It’s the ideal basecamp for those who plan to explore the high country. During the warmer months, when the snow begins to melt, many come to the area to check out the Blue River. It’s the perfect place to find trout and to do some fly fishing.

The Fourth Street Crossing area is a fun, walkable area in the downtown area of the city. It’s the ideal place to visit as you first arrive in town to get to know the area. This is a newer area, with a few historical sites and a few great restaurants, bars, and shops to explore as well. Though many people drive through Silverthorne as they are working their way to Colorado’s ski resorts and other attractions, there are plenty of reasons to sit and relax here for a bit (or just get out and enjoy all the area has to offer).
