About
Workshop Kitchen & Bar features classic 1920's architecture, mountain views, and chef-centric seasonal cuisine, making it a must-visit Michelin-starred destination.
The creative and driving forces behind Workshop Kitchen & Bar are Chef Michael Beckman and Chef Joe Mourani. With their combined culinary training and experiences in world-renowned restaurants, they envisioned a community-focused dining space in the desert.
Their dream became reality in October 2012 when Workshop Kitchen & Bar opened. It was an instant hit with diners, and as the saying goes, they haven't looked back.
Before we zero in on the cuisine, let's take a look at the historic 1926 El Paseo building. This grand structure features classic Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, but it was New York-based architect and artist Michel Abboud who reenvisioned the interior.
The dining room features a minimalist, industrial aesthetic with towering concrete booths and earned the prestigious James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Restaurant Design in 2015.
While aesthetics are pleasing to the eye, the cuisine must also be pleasing to the palate. Rest assured, it does. The kitchen partners with organic regional purveyors and artisans, and fresh produce arrives daily.
The restaurant's proximity to popular landmarks makes it easy to add a meal at the end of your sightseeing. For instance, celebrate a day exploring Joshua Tree National Park or a day golfing at PGA WEST Greg Norman Golf Course.
Savoring an artisan meal at Workshop Kitchen & Bar adds culinary sophistication to your travel plans. Discover for yourself why this iconic eatery is a reliable, high-quality choice on a Coachella Valley vacation.
Vibe
When it comes to curb appeal and "WOW!" factor, the historic El Paseo building has it! The classic Spanish Colonial Revival architecture with white stucco walls and clay tile roofs is a grand statement.
But it's the revitalized interior that makes for a jaw-dropping experience. The soaring ceilings, exposed trusses, and massive concrete booths create a modern, cathedral-like atmosphere. It's a world of contrasts, where energy, sophistication, and elegance come together as a family.
Dining at the grand communal table offers a social experience in the center of the room. High-top bar seating provides a front-row view of the mixologists at work. For an outdoor experience, the courtyard offers dining al fresco under large olive trees.
The ambiance offers a sophisticated yet relaxed setting, perfectly suited to a California vacation.
Workshop Kitchen & Bar: Menu & Drinks
The items on the Smalls section of the menu make ideal appetizers or a tapas-style feast. The Roasted Heirloom Carrots offer a carnival of flavors, seasoned with tzatziki, grilled dates, Suzee's honey, Harissa vinaigrette, and an herb salsa.
Within the Plates section, an appealing and creative meal is the White Sturgeon. The freshwater fish is pan-roasted in brown butter with balsamic lentils, honey nut squash, pancetta, lemon confit, and scallion. The tender, mild fish is complemented by the spices and ingredients, making it a showstopper.
The Green Chile Cheeseburger can't be beat! This juicy handheld features certified Angus beef, roasted poblano, white cheddar, and house pickles, and comes on a brioche bun. Add the onion straws, sungold aioli, and duck fat fries, and you'll be holding paradise in your hands!
One of the most celebrated dishes is the 32-oz mesquite-grilled ribeye steak. Cooked to your preference, the steak arrives with roasted root vegetables sourced directly from nearby organic farms.
When it comes to beverages, mixologists use house-made syrups and premium spirits to craft specialty cocktails. A prime example is the Matriarch with Yola mezcal, Aperol, passionfruit, pineapple, lemon, salted grapefruit, and Peychaud's bitters. The drink's smoky mezcal and the cooling, refreshing fruits make it ideal after a day at Joshua Tree National Park.
Visiting Workshop Kitchen & Bar combines award-winning cuisine and atmosphere, making for a soul-satisfying dining experience.
