Post Office Pies

Post Office Pies is your go-to for hand-tossed, wood-fired pizzas sourced from local ingredients. You'll also enjoy the vibe in the revitalized Avondale Post Office and the on-tap brews.

Owners Mike Wilson, Brandon Cain, and chef John Hall opened the pizzeria on March 13, 2014. But the pizzeria isn't the team's first rodeo. They are also the brains behind SAW's Soul Kitchen downtown. 

The menu at Post Office Pies showcases locally sourced ingredients, including Jones Valley Teaching Farm produce.

Along with these fresh ingredients, the dough is house-made, making for a farm-to-table dining experience. Add the seasonal specials, and it's easy to see why it's an Iron City hotspot! 

Post Office Pies's location near the Birmingham Botanical Garden makes it the perfect dining spot after exploring the gardens. It is also close to other landmarks, like Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, making it easy to include pizza in your itinerary.

Vibe

The brick exterior of the historic building has been beautifully restored, with cream-colored paint that blends with the other retailers. 

Off to one side are umbrella-covered tables, offering the perfect al fresco dining spot.  

The building's modern windows give passersby a glimpse inside and allow sunlight to fill the space.  

Inside, the decor strikes a balance between industrial and homey. Exposed brick walls, polished concrete floors, and modern lighting fixtures combine for a sleek yet laid-back aesthetic. 

The open kitchen, with the wood-burning oven, adds warmth and connects diners with the scents of pizzas. Steel chairs and wooden tables complete the look, adding to its relaxed vibe.

The atmosphere is lively, but not overwhelming. Families, couples, and groups of friends share meals and laughter, giving the space an inclusive and friendly feel.

Pasta lovers will delight in the Baked Ziti with assorted cheeses, penne pasta, and meat sauce. The Mac & Cheese is another highlight with orecchiette pasta, white cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan cheese, and mornay sauce with bread crumbs. Additionally, Caesar and traditional salad, veggie pasta, and meatball sub ensure something for everyone in your group.  

Moving on to the pizzas, we'll explore some of their specialties. You can also build your own from the vast list of ingredients, including a gluten-free crust and vegan cheese.

One standout pie is the Margherita. With its simple yet sophisticated blend of fresh mozzarella, pomodoro sauce, and roasted cherry tomatoes, this classic will have your taste buds dancing with delight.
