Welcome to

Angel Fire

High in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico, Angel Fire presents an alpine landscape defined by dense pine forests and sweeping valley views. Travelers choose this high-altitude destination along New Mexico’s Enchanted Circle for exceptional outdoor recreation across all four seasons.

Rising to just over 8,300 feet above sea level, Angel Fire is surrounded by peaks reaching to over 10,000 feet. Located about 30 minutes west of Taos, the village of Angel Fire was originally established as a ski destination in 1966. This area quickly evolved into a popular resort town though is still home to only locally-owned and operated shops, ensuring a warm sense of community.

Angel Fire’s unique name stems from the Moache Ute Native Americans. In observing the red and orange hues of the sun reflecting off the mountain peaks at dawn, they referred to the glowing phenomenon as the fire of the gods. Today, that regional history blends smoothly with modern, top-tier amenities.

In addition to world-class skiing, Angel Fire is home to vibrant events, moving memorials, and is a must stop along New Mexico’s Enchanted Circle circling Wheeler Peak - the state’s tallest mountain. Here you will also find an internationally renowned chapel and visitor center as part of the first memorial in the U.S. dedicated to Vietnam Veterans. The stunning scenery provides a welcome backdrop in commemoration.

While winter visitors are particularly drawn to Angel Fire’s peaks - including New Mexico’s only night skiing - the area provides a welcome mountain respite at any time of the year. With average summer temperatures in the mid-70°s, the weather is near perfect for year-round outdoor activities. For a truly spectacular summer experience, plan a Father’s Day visit for Balloons over Angel Fire - one of the few high-mountain hot-air balloon events in the country. In addition, visitors should experience the Angel Fire Bike Park. This renowned outdoor destination features over 60 miles of lift-accessed trails suitable for riders of all skill levels.

Experience the outdoor culture and scenery of northern New Mexico. Pack your bags for a memorable mountain retreat and book a premier Angel Fire vacation rental today.
