About

Florida's Treasure Coast is known for crystal clear waters, sugar white beaches, and fun attractions, but now there's a venue for the performing arts. Sunrise Theatre is where locals and vacationers can immerse themselves in live music, ballet, comedy, or Broadway shows.

The Sunrise Theatre is in the picture-perfect location of Fort Pierce, known for its historic downtown. The theater opened in 1923 and maintains its vintage look to this day.

During Sunrise Theatre's early years, it served as a moviehouse and a venue for vaudeville performances. As times changed, so did the theater's purpose.

In the 1980s, it closed its doors, only to be restored and reopened in 2006 as a performing arts center. Designers kept the theater's old-school look, including its glowing marquee out front and the spectacular interior with a balcony and elegant decor.

Sunrise Theatre hosts concerts by internationally acclaimed artists and performances by local dance schools. Tribute bands and comedy acts and routines frequent the Sunrise Theatre, too.

The seating capacity for the Sunrise Theatre is 1,200, and the layout allows every seat to have a great view. And because of its size, the performing arts center is large enough to attract top-notch performers.

Sunrise Theatre is the ideal venue to host an event in the Treasure Coast area. And if you're vacationing in Fort Pierce during the summer, check out their Children's Summer Programs online.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

One cool feature of the Sunrise Theatre is its intricate and beautiful interior design. The theater was designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, with ornate details, arches, and vibrant colors that transport you to another world as soon as you step inside.

Another fun fact is that the theater is said to be haunted! According to local legends, the ghost of a former manager roams the premises, making occasional appearances to staff and visitors.

The performing arts center also has a smaller, more intimate venue called the Black Box, which hosts smaller events, comedy shows, and private parties.

If your child has a flare for the dramatic, look into their week-long summer camps, Missoula Children's Theatre. The summer camp ends with a live performance with the children featuring professionally designed sets and costumes.
