About

The Frank Lloyd Wright Spire is a visual testament to the vision and creativity of one of America's most iconic architects.

This unique structure is based on Wright's design created in the 1950s for the Arizona State Capitol. His concept was never used, and it would take another 54 years before the spire found a home.

In 2004, the Promenade Shopping Centre wanted a focal point. They worked with one of Wright's apprentices, Arnold Roy, and took the 50s tower design and built the spire on the corner of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Scottsdale Road.

The tower rises to approximately 125 feet and weighs 75,000 pounds. At night, it glows with a soft blue light, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that has become a beloved local landmark.

Its construction is a blend of traditional and modern, using materials that pay tribute to the desert landscape and Wright's innovative architectural style.

The fusion of art, architecture, and history creates a compelling attraction to enchant any Arizona getaway.

Frank Lloyd Wright Spire: Fun Facts & Cool Features

One fascinating feature of the Frank Lloyd Wright Spire is that its design aligns with the celestial equator. When you stand beneath it, you stand under a man-made star map.

Another fun fact is its color-changing ability, adding an extra enchantment layer. While the panels are turquoise blue, they glow at night, creating a mesmerizing spectacle visible from miles away.

Its location at the Promenade Shopping Centre also allows visitors to combine a shopping spree with a dash of culture and history.

Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural style was revolutionary, and the spire is no exception. His philosophy of "organic architecture" took inspiration from nature and aimed to create harmony between manufactured structures and their environment. The spire embodies these principles with its unique design that blends into the desert landscape.

The use of steel and translucent acrylic panels creates a sense of weightlessness, allowing the structure to appear as if it's floating in the sky. This blend of modern materials with traditional craftsmanship is a hallmark of Wright's work and can be seen throughout the spire.

Visiting Scottsdale without experiencing the Frank Lloyd Wright Spire would be like skipping the Eiffel Tower on a trip to Paris!

Its unique design, historical significance, and captivating beauty make it a must-visit attraction for anyone exploring Scottsdale.
