With 1,100 navigable miles of ocean, JAX has more shoreline than any other city in the U.S.!
The sun-kissed Florida coastline encompassing Jacksonville, Neptune, and Atlantic Beaches, as well as Mayport, is located just 17 miles from the diverse urban neighborhoods of downtown Jacksonville. The urban landscape filled with museums, sports venues, a towering skyline, and the St. John’s River gives way to parks, wildlife sanctuaries, dunes, immaculate golf courses, pristine beaches, and the Atlantic Ocean. Just south of Jacksonville Beach in Ponte Vedra is the famed TPC Sawgrass golf course, welcoming The Players Championship to its greens each March.
With over 220 days of sunshine annually, Jacksonville Beaches provide the perfect setting for year-round outdoor activities in the subtropical climate. People often refer to this part of northern Florida hugging the Atlantic Ocean as the “First Coast” (sometimes called the “Historic Coast”). Today, the First Coast moniker has come to represent it as the first coast in Florida that tourists visit when traveling southbound along the Atlantic seaboard. The name initially represented this area as the first part of Florida colonized by Europeans in the 16th century. Both the French and the Spanish settled into this part of northern Florida on lands of the Mocama and the Timucua. Further down the coast, St. Augustine was Florida’s first European settlement.
Jacksonville Beach welcomes visitors throughout the year to enjoy its wonderful weather and prime events. Each March, The Players Championship attracts golf aficionados from across the globe to our beckoning beaches.TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra has been home to The Players Championship of the PGA Tour since 1982.
