About
Idaho City boasts of a restaurant that is a throwback to a Gold Rush saloon packed with memorabilia and serving hearty grub. This is Diamond Lil's Museum, Steakhouse & Saloon.
This restaurant and saloon are deeply rooted in the story of Idaho City, once the bustling heart of the gold rush in the Idaho Territory. In 1862, as the Civil War raged in the eastern United States, a different kind of fervor gripped the Idaho Territory. The discovery of gold in the Boise Basin had prospectors flocking to the area, leading to a rapid growth of towns and the transformation of Idaho City into a major commercial hub.
During its golden era, Idaho City was a hive of activity, boasting over 250 businesses, including amenities like opera and theater houses, breweries, and numerous saloons. It was a town alive with energy and ambition, where fortunes were made and lost overnight.
However, this boom didn't last. As gold became scarcer and more challenging to mine, the prospectors left, and devastating fires in 1865, 1867, 1868, and 1871 further impacted the town.
Despite these challenges, the resilient spirit of Idaho City shone through, with the town rebuilding itself each time, preserving many structures from the 1860s that stand to this day.
Visiting Diamond Lil's Museum, Steakhouse & Saloon, is a springboard into history, hearty fare, and Western spirit.
