Cancun Destination Wedding Guide

Cancun offers beautiful weather, turquoise water, and white sand beaches. Its location in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula makes it a short, convenient plane ride from most places in the United States. With so much to offer, it’s the perfect tropical paradise for a destination wedding.

Marriage Requirements

Before you get swept away with dreams of exotic Cancun weddings, make sure you have everything required to get married. For your marriage to be legal, you’ll need a few things.

  • Tourist cards (typically issued at the airport)
  • Four witnesses with official IDs
  • Marriage request form
  • Birth certificates
  • Blood test results
  • Passports
  • Proof of divorce or annulment if applicable

You should plan to arrive in Mexico a few days before your wedding. It’s required by law and will give you some time to make sure everything is ready.

Time of Year

There is no bad time to get married in Cancun. There are certain factors to consider when planning your dream ceremony, though.

November through April is the high season, with perfect temperature and little rain. Those planning Cancun weddings during this period should book early since it’s a popular time to travel. Also be prepared to pay more for resorts or vacation rentals.

September through November is the rainy season. Temperatures are nice but afternoon downpours are common. This is also the time of year with the highest hurricane risk. On the plus side, there are fewer travelers, meaning you can find massive deals.

The summer season lasts from May through September. Temperatures soar and beaches can get crowded — especially during spring break.

Accommodations

There’s no shortage of accommodations to choose from. It’s possible to book a block of rooms at a standard hotel, however vacation rentals are your better choice. If you’re looking for more privacy, whether you’d like large, luxurious housing for multiple people or smaller individual abodes, you’ll be able to find it.

Many of the vacation rental resorts are all-inclusive, with wedding planners to help arrange the ceremony of your dreams.

The city’s position on the coast means that most accommodations will put you right on the beach.

Cancun Activities

One of the best parts of a destination wedding is getting the chance to explore a new location. It’s especially important to have options if you’re bringing guests. You and your guests will have plenty to do both before and after the ceremony.

Cancun is situated near the second-longest coral reef in the world. This means you’ll have access to snorkeling, swimming, and other water sports. If you’re a history buff, check out some of the nearby Mayan ruins.

When the sun goes down, one of the most vibrant nightlife scenes in the world emerges. There are innumerable clubs, pubs, and boat parties to attend.
