About

Hollywood legends and mouth-watering steaks have something in common in Big Bear. And that's Captain's Anchorage Restaurant and Bar.

Known initially as Andy Devine's Sportsman's Lodge, the restaurant was formerly owned by famed Hollywood actor Andy Devine and quickly became a popular gathering spot for his industry friends.

The historical site, 6,750 feet above sea level, has become integral to Big Bear's vibrant tapestry.

Andy Devine was a prolific actor known for his distinct raspy voice and well-loved character roles in countless Hollywood films throughout the '30s, '40s, and '50s.

Devine, who owned a cabin in Big Bear, always wanted a place where he could entertain his friends and neighbors. So, in 1946, he converted a spacious log cabin \ into a restaurant and bar. And Sportsman's Lodge was born.

In the late 1970s, the Sportsman's Lodge changed hands and became what we know today as Captain's Anchorage. The new owners updated the restaurant with nautical-themed decor while preserving its historical essence.

What truly defines Captain's Anchorage is its commitment to providing spectacular food and exceptional service. The menu features melt-in-your-mouth steaks, succulent seafood, and perfectly paired accompaniments that delight your taste buds.
