About

I decided to stop in for a meal at Three Bear Restaurant the other night, and it did not disappoint.

I thought this restaurant was pretty cool with its log cabin-like feel to it. It looks like a lodging spot that is beckoning you in for the night after spending the day on the trail, which is pretty much what our group did during the day.

The food was great. We visited for dinner, but they also have lunch and breakfast as well (really planning to come back for that true Western breakfast one day).

When we arrived at Three Bear Restaurant, they were busy, but we didn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes for a table. That’s a good thing because we were hungry after a long day. We learned about the specials on the menu and then were able to order quickly. The location is pretty laid back and simple, and that is exactly as it should be when it comes to a lodge-like feel.

What I really liked was how quick it was. We waited a few minutes to have a seat, but once we did, our food was there within an even shorter amount of time. That means that people can get in and out fast.

The restaurant isn’t a new building, but it was built in 1932. The current owners bought it in 1970, and it has been updated and modernized throughout without taking away its remote feel.

Located inside the Three Bear Lodge, everyone is welcome! I definitely recommend stopping in for some delicious food!

Vibe

When you step into Three Bear Restaurant, you are greeted by what seems to be a museum-like area. There’s a lot of information about the lodge as well as about Yellowstone itself on display.

I recommend taking the time to read through it, and you’ll learn about the wood being used, how they salvaged and reused a lot of the materials, and the history of the location, including the fire that they had in 2008.

Once you get inside the restaurant, the area has a relaxed vibe, and feels like you are at a friend’s home. It’s very family-friendly and laid back. Everyone is smiling, and conversations are moving.

Three Bear Restaurant: Menu & Drink

The dinner menu is pretty robust, with numerous options.

To get started, I enjoyed the Bison Nachos. These were great, and a big serving of them that I didn’t mind sharing. They are topped with bison chili, fresh tomatoes, shredded cheese, and some spicy jalapenos.

For my main meal, I decided on the Big Game Meatloaf. A lot of the restaurants nearby offer these types of meals, but this one was great. It is a combination of elk, bison, and beef, all ground daily at the restaurant. It is all locally raised, too. I had a salad with it and then a baked potato loaded with cheese and chili. This was a big meal, and I certainly overthought how much I could eat.

Other options on the menu include burgers, sandwiches, steaks, pasta, and much more. There’s even a kid’s menu, too.

They have beer and some wine on the menu, but I decided on a lemonade, which was squeezed in-house and delicious.

Finally, after thinking about it for a while, I decided to take the Warm Triple Chocolate Cake home with me. They say it is big enough for two people, but I just ate it for dessert later at night and then again for breakfast. It was a rich, made-from-scratch goodness treat!

Local Tips

  • The location practices sustainability in a lot of what they do, including food preparation and packaging.
  • The views outside are amazing and are the perfect backdrop for a short walk after your very big dinner.
  • Try the local ice cream that’s also on the menu.
  • If you want fresh fish, be sure to ask what was caught today.
