About

Mt. Bachelor is a fantastic destination for anyone who lives in Oregon and wants to get away to an area that feels completely different from the big city. It is located just outside of Bend and offers some of the best outdoor activities in the state. For those exploring the area, know that there is a ton to do here, from golfing to winter sports, hiking, cycling, and so much more. If you want adventure come to Mt. Bachelor.

About

Mt Bachelor is home to a skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking resort. There is so much to do at this resort throughout the year that it has become a family favorite for our family each year. There is something to do for just about anyone. The ski resort opened in 1958, and since that time, it has grown to have so much to do. It is possible to ski or ride 360 degrees off the summit of the mountain, and there are some outstanding hiking trails for those who don’t want to get in the snow.

We have found that this is the best area for our ski loving family. We spend time doing it all, from snow tubing to snowshoeing. We even tried dog sledding and found that to be incredibly fun.

To be clear, the mountain resort offers everything you need, from a full service ski resort to lodging, shopping, and dining. However, you can also visit the mountain and do some skiing or hiking without having to stay at the lodge. We have done both experiences in the past and encourage everyone to do so.

The resort is home to lots of outdoor activities, as I will mention below. It is also home to a mobile kitchen called Eagan’s Outpost. We often start our day at Subie Shack for coffee in the morning. There are a few bars and restaurants in the area, too, mostly in the West Village area. There are other restaurants available too that are a bit more family friendly.

Getting There and Info

Mt Bachelor is located in the Village of Sunriver. The area gets about 370 inches of snow each year, and it is all within about 20 minutes of Bend.

We recommend that you book in advance if you plan to stay at the location since it is such a population location. I also highly recommend downloading the ski resort’s app. The app gives you up to the minute information on the trails (they do close often due to weather) as well as the wait times at various attractions. I also found them helpful in tracking down our family members at various times of the day. It is a great way to just know where everyone is.

Prices change each year, but the Outplay 365 pass is generally the best option because it gives you lots of access to skiing opportunities. That includes access to alpine and Nordic tracks on the mountain, as well as unlimited downhill biking and summer perks. The annual pass for adults is around $1800, and for young adults over 19, it is around $1200. Other discounts are available, but remember that costs will differ from year to year.

Winter Activities

Mt Bachelor is a fantastic place to visit during the winter months. Remember that for everything you do here, you do not have to bring anything but yourself. You can rent anything you need for the experience, which is a great way to really have some fun without the stress of it all.

Our favorite activities during the winter months are skiing, of course, including both the alpine and the Nordic areas. We also enjoy snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There is an area for snowboarding here as well. Most days of the year, it is open and readily available for some fun. You can also do some hiking in the winter months and, of course, warm up at one of the various fire pits and lodge fireplaces after your day out on the snow.

Summer Activities

Do not overlook all of the fun things there are to do here in the summer as well. We try to make it down to the area at least one time every summer because there is so much to explore. That includes the hiking – miles and miles of some of the best views, and it is still comfortable and cool most of the time. You can also go river rafting and fly fishing, two of the activities our family has recently taken on.

There are a number of golf courses in the area as well. We have to recommend the mountain biking, too. Rent some bikes or ATVs and head off to explore the area. It is so much fun throughout the day. There are also pools and spa amenities throughout the area to enjoy.
