About

If you’re looking for a moderately difficult and rewarding hike, this is a great choice. Found at the Northwest end of the island, between Hams Bay & Annaly Bay.

Getting To Ham's Bluff Trailhead

To find the start point on your maps, search for the Hams Bluff TrailHead and follow directions there. The drive to the TrailHead is turbulent, as with many roads in St. Croix. We highly recommend that you drive a 4-wheel vehicle here, lifted if possible. Be sure to drive slowly and carefully.

When you arrive, there will be an abandoned building with a parking lot. This is where you park and it’s free. There are signs towards the back of the lot that point to the start of the trail. Follow it! (See image 3 below)

Hike Summary & Info

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Elevation: High
Terrain: Rocky & Uneven
Duration: 0.8 mile each way, 20 Minutes Each Way

Make sure you bring water and wear hike-appropriate, close-toed shoes! Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Hiking to Ham's Bluff Lighthouse

I’ll be honest with you, the lighthouse itself isn’t much to look at. It’s quite small and unmaintained. So, it is quite dilapidated and rusted. You are not able to go up the lighthouse as the stairs inside are closed off. However, it has plenty of character. People from all over the world have left their mark on it by carving/writing in their initials or a message for future visitors to see. Additionally, there is plenty of opportunity for a photo-op with the surrounding area and scenic view from the top. The top of this hike makes it all worth it, offering peaceful and stunning panoramic views the ocean and Hams Bluff.

On this hike, you may also be surprised to find mountain goats! According to multiple visitors, they are pretty commonly found on this hike. These goats seem to be gravity-defying as they scale up and down the mountain. They are dark brown/black and travel in groups so they should be pretty easy to spot!

When you're done hiking, we recommend a post-hike meal and drinks at one of our recommended restaurants. Need somewhere to stay in St. Croix? From oceanfront condos, to private villas, Casago St Croix has you covered. Contact us online or call (917) 721-2727 to learn more.
