The Mill Boardwalk Bar Brick Oven Pizza

About

The Mill Boardwalk Bar and Brick Oven Pizza restaurant is so much more than a bar and eatery! It’s a unique place to hang with friends, bring the family, have a date or even fly solo and meet a new friend at the bar. It’s located on the boardwalk on St. Croix, with spectacular views of the marina, of the water and of the sky. You can’t miss it, because it’s in an old mill, which is a big, circular stone building that looks like a lighthouse.

There’s nothing not to like about this place. I love that my friends and I can just drop in anytime (well, when they’re open), sit down, enjoy a cold drink in one of those fun, island plastic cups, and shoot the breeze for an entire afternoon. Between the sounds of the seagulls, the boats, and the friendly chatter all around, it’s just so relaxing to escape from all your worries.

Each night, the Mill has Happy Hour, which goes from 4 PM to 5:30 PM. During Happy Hour they have pizza by the slice, plus special cocktails of the day. Now, if you’re wondering how popular this place really is, consider that they have nearly 4,000 followers on Facebook. Also, The Mill won the 2020 Travelers’ Choice award.

Our Experience At The Mill

The Mill Boardwalk Bar and Brick Oven Pizza restaurant is in a very cool building. It’s at the base of an old mill. In fact, part of it is actually inside the old mill. Walking up, there’s this huge stone building that you think is just abandoned, and come to find out there’s a hive of activity awaiting you. Interestingly, the Mill building has withstood numerous hurricanes throughout the years, including Hurricane Hugo in 1989, when St. Croix took a direct hit.

The outside deck is populated with low-key wooden barrels painted in bright island colors, long wooden tables and stools and low wooden tables and chairs with umbrellas. There’s also a small bar where you’ll find a selection of locals, plus tourists and their dates. Plus, it’s right on the boardwalk with views of the hotel island across the way from downtown. You can feel the ocean breeze as you dine, which you’ll appreciate on those hot and humid St. Croix summer days.

What's Good at the Mill

The Mill is open from 3 PM to 10 PM, seven days a week. However, in off seasons, the hours may differ. At The Mill you can get takeout, but there’s no delivery. When I went, our server was Makyla. We got great service and Makyla was extremely attentive. We never had to ask for drink refills, our server was just right there, anticipating our needs. The big draw is the atmosphere and the location, right on the water.

They’re known for their pizza of course, but they offer plenty of other foods, as well. The menu consists of lots of variations on pizza, as you would expect, but there are also surprising dishes like homemade bread pudding, roast beef caprese salad, truffled mozzarella, Yellowfish tuna poke and rum cake ice cream sandwiches. They also have daily specials to tempt you. If you need gluten-free options, they can accommodate those as well. As far as the pizza goes, you’re going to be as impressed as I was.

The dough is all hand-made on a daily basis. It’s cooked inside a wood-fired pizza oven that was custom made. Their signature pizzas include the Meat Freak (my fave), and the Alla Vodka, which is an interesting combination of Mutiny Island Vodka sauce, sausage, spinach, shrimp and mozzarella. I know it sounds like of weird, but trust me, you’re gonna love it (and no, it won’t get you drunk!)
