About

No Bones Cafe has a prime location in Gallows Bay, Christiansted, directly across from the QE IV Ferry dock. It’s owned and run by Chuck Vouros, a New York transplant and dedicated New England Patriots fan. Chuck is a permanent fixture at No Bones Cafe and takes a keen interest in his patrons. He often makes a point of stopping by the tables to make sure guests are enjoying themselves and their food. This place is one of the Christiansted locals’ favorites, probably because of the welcoming atmosphere, reasonable prices and friendly crowd.

Location & Environment

You’d be forgiven for missing No Bones Cafe. It’s in an unassuming coral building fronted by a deep porch set with picnic benches and overhead fans to keep the warm air moving. There’s a terrific breeze that comes in off Gallows Bay, but the fans lend a certain exotic flare on top of being functional. It’s actually quite enjoyable just to drop by for a cocktail or a cold beer, sit on the front porch and people watch.

Inside, the place is quite spacious, with tables available for groups as well as couples. In fact, the long tables are perfect for large families or big groups of friends to come in and take a load off. No Bones Cafe isn’t one of those dark and dingy bars, either. It’s bright and airy inside and kid-friendly. They even have those little wooden booster seats available for the kiddos.

There’s a long bar with top shelf liquors, including island favorite Cruzan Rum, of course. If you can think it, the bartender can make it. There are also a couple of flat panel TV screens set up so anyone can watch. Just don’t ask for a channel change if the Pats are playing! In fact, if the Pats do happen to be playing, there’s no place you’d rather be than in the No Bones Cafe, because there are lots of Pats fans on St. Croix at any given time.

Dress is casual at the No Bones Cafe. Tank tops, jeans, shorts, it’s all cool here. The whole vibe is relaxed and slow, just like St. Croix itself. However, it’s a full-service cafe, as in, you should wait to be seated, and you’ll get the royal treatment from the waitstaff. This is definitely the kind of place where, if you show up often enough, they’ll greet you by name.

The decor inside is island casual. There are island tiles, wood tables and white serving ware. Notably, the ambience has a lovely quietness to it; the kind of sound you get when you walk around in a wooden cabin. They play old school 70s and 80s music with a little bit of classic soul music mixed in for good measure, but they don’t play it so loud that you can’t hear your friends. No one has to shout to be heard in here. It’s just there in the background.

What’s Good on the Menu

The question of what’s good on the menu is kind of moot. It’s more like what isn’t good, because it’s all good here. They serve classic American food in American-style portions (read, generous!) We’re talking big, juicy burgers with a hill of french fries that overflow off the plate, served with big ramekins of ketchup and mayonnaise.

They also have cajun-style chicken burgers that will actually make you re-think hamburgers. One of their specialty appetizers is shrimp cocktail, served in a chilled silver metal champagne cup with lemon, lettuce and cocktail sauce. They have freshly-made guacamole and house-made chips for dipping. They also have lots of seafood dishes spiced up with cajun hot sauce and other marinades.

In the tipple department, No Bones Cafe has a bevy of specialty cocktails to choose from, many made with locally produced Cruzan Rum. Others include cocktails made with Prosecco, gin and more. They also have an impressive selection of bottled beers from Germany, the U.S., Mexico, the Netherlands and more. Red, white and sparkling wines are served by the glass or by the bottle.

Belly up to the bar alone or with a buddy and make a new friend or two, because this is a place where real conversations take place. Or, order a bottle of wine and a shrimp cocktail for you and your loved one and watch the sun come down on Gallows Bay from the outdoor porch. Bring the family for an affordable meal out of the vacation rental on a steamy St. Croix evening. After dinner, go for a walk along the marina and fantasize about which boat you would buy. No Bones Cafe is like a blank canvas that can serve all your drinking and eating needs on St. Croix.
