About

There is always a lot to do on Rainey Street and plenty of food options for sit-down restaurants. However, sometimes you want something really good that’s fast. For that, I recommend the Rainey Street Food Truck Lot. Seriously, it’s a hidden secret with the fantastic options available.

This is a small lot, and there are still nine specialty food trucks available to check out. Some of the food options are just so good you will want to come back for them time and time again.

There are food trucks with just about any type of food you want, but better than any type of fast food out there. You’ll find barbecue, Indian, Tex-Mex, dessert options, and much more.

The food trucks each set up their own times and hours of operation, and their menus can change over time as well. I don’t know about every one of them, but most of the locations are great about customizing orders, and the staff has always been pretty friendly.

Just remember that each one is a separate business, so you’ll want to make a point to try them all over some time.

Vibe

There’s not a lot to the Rainey Street Food Truck Lot—it’s a lot that’s been two buildings. There are nine food trucks set up, and all of them are super cool.

There are also some white picnic tables nearby so you can sit down and eat. There are some crisscross string lights up to offer a bit of ambiance and fun to the location when it gets dark. There’s nothing pretentious about it, though. It’s great for a quick bite to eat while I’m shopping or getting errands done.

Rainey Street Food Truck Lot: Menu & Drinks

There are several food trucks that I feel are the best out there, but honestly, all of them are unique and worth stopping by.

Four Brothers Venezuelan is a favorite because the chicken empanadas here are super good, especially when you get them with the loaded yucca fries (drizzle some ranch over them for an extra bit of zing.)

Wrigleyville Dogs is another option. Now, these are really good ballpark hotdogs, and they are exactly what you want your child that’s hungry and tired of walking around to enjoy. They offer several varieties, including Polish, Vienna, and Italian beef versions. You can also add some chili on top when you want to go to the next level.

Gebby’s BBQ is another must, especially if you enjoy slow-cooked goodness. They have sliced brisket sandwiches and some of the best mac and cheese. It’s actually made with gouda to give it that earthy taste. I love this option when I’m really hungry and want something that’s filling.

Another one I’ve tried and recommend is Taco Baby, which is not only super good with flavorful carnitas but also has a great price. I really like the mahi mahi tacos here, but they do have a gluten-free option and others.

Local Tips

  • If you are looking for a gluten-free option, the chicken bowl is not only gluten-free but also low-carb and super good (it’s at Four Brothers Venezuelan).
  • It can be crowded and hard to find a spot to sit to eat, so I recommend getting your order to go so you can find a place to sit down the street.
  • Depending on what’s happening, you may even get some live music playing in the area, which makes for a fun night outside.
  • Most of the trucks prepare food as it is ordered, which means it is hot and fresh and also means you will have to wait a bit to get it. It’s worth it.
