About
GianMarco's has been delighting Birmingham diners since its debut in 2003 when father-and-son trio Giovanni, Giani, and Marco Respinto opened this Italian restaurant.
Our story begins long ago in Greenwich Village in New York City. Here, Giovanni ran his restaurant, Rocco's, and the two boys grew up (literally) running around in the kitchen.
Fast forward to when they grow up, and Giani and Marco follow their passion for the food industry with various high-caliber positions. After Giovanni retired, Giani worked in Birmingham and fell in love with the Magic City. Soon, he had Marco and Giovanni interested. In no time, the trio launched the Italian restaurant, with the moniker being a fusion of the boys' names.
As you can imagine, the menu at GianMarco's features NY family recipes with crowd-pleasers such as veal scallopini, chicken Francese, and baked oyster florentine.
With the focus on quality ingredients, many dishes incorporate herbs grown in their garden. Their specials, which include pasta, meat, fish, and desserts, always ensure something exciting and seasonal to discover.
Its Homewood location puts the eatery near some of the area's top attractions, like Vulcan Park & Museum and Red Mountain Park. Such proximity makes planning a day of adventure followed by Italian cuisine easy.
With the success of the more formal restaurant, the Brothers Respinto opened Pizzeria G.M. several blocks away. In addition to Napoleon-style pizzas, it serves sandwiches, salads, burgers, and pasta.
Dining at GianMarco's is an experience not to be missed, whether for a romantic rendezvous, family get-togethers, or business dinners.
Vibe
Tucked in the quaint Homewood neighborhood is a restored one-story brick building, home to GianMarco's. The facade reflects Birmingham's industrial age when iron was king and resembles Greenwich Village structures.
This New York City meets Birmingham vibe continues inside, where white linen tables dot the floor, and earth tones color the walls.
Soft lighting and tasteful Italian art blend with the ceiling's industrial-style look of exposed ductwork.
The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between lively and relaxed, attracting an array of diners. Here, couples celebrate milestones while families chat about a day at The Market at Pepper Place.
The ambiance is perfect for a Birmingham getaway, offering refined dining with genuine Southern hospitality.
GianMarco's: Menu & Drinks
What's better than savoring authentic Italian cuisine rooted in New York City? Okay, perhaps dining in Rome, but GianMarco's offers the best of both worlds in Birmingham!
Sure, you'll find staples like rigatoni and lasagna, but where the menu shines is in the unique dishes. An example is the Pistachio-Crusted Fried Gulf Oysters from the Antipasto section. The fresh seafood features tomato relish, basil, balsamic vinegar, and crostini for a bold and adventurous taste.
Among the standout dishes, the Veal Scallopini Marsala is a clear favorite. Customers praise its tenderness and the sauce featuring sauteed mushrooms, butter, stock, and Marsala. It comes with spaghetti or polenta and will satisfy a ravenous appetite after golfing at the RTJ Golf Trail.
If the exotic entrees don't appeal, the Spaghetti & Sunday sauce with meatballs, sausage, parmesan, Penne Vodka, various pizzas, and Baked Rigatoni will.
Another section of the menu to explore is the Specials. The Pesto Pizza is a delight with house-made pesto, fresh mushrooms, shrimp, and fontina cheese.
The Mixed Grill entree will delight the senses! This feast features two quail breasts wrapped in bacon, a rack of lamb, Italian sausage, sweet potato gratin, and baby spinach in an apricot red wine reduction.
Save room for dessert to sink your teeth into wonders like the Flourless Chocolate Torte, gelatos, cheesecakes, and tiramisu.
No Italian meal is complete without something to sip on, and GianMarco's wine and cocktail selection will impress. With over 200 bottles to peruse, pairing with your meal is limitless. Craft cocktails abound, with plenty of options to appeal to any palate.
GianMarco's combination of expertly prepared dishes, homey ambiance, and abundant drinks makes it perfect for an Alabama getaway.
