If you are planning a trip to Rocky Point, plan on going to the Mermaid Market which is held in Shrimp Park on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month. However, this event is not held during the hottest months from except June-September. The park is located at the streetlight heading to Las Conchas, across from City Hall.

Shopping at the Mermaid Market

This event has been going on for 10 years and features local artisans, music, great BBQ, and tamales. Plan to spend a full day here from 10 am to 3 pm, eating and shopping. You will find hand crafted, 1-of-a-kind jewelry from several artists. Stop by Creative Card Therapy to get that special occasion card. Or, pick up a hand-decorated shell art wine bottle light by Beverly’s Lights. At the market, there are also several local photographers selling their pictures of old Puerto Peñasco compared to modern Peñasco.  Looking for some one of a kind ladies apparel? This is the place to find them. Choose from hand painted dresses, tops and pants by Carlotta Blanco. Alternatively, you can find unique dresses, jackets, jewelry and purses from Naomi Black. Tony Ballesteros offers unique home décor while you can purchase beautiful blankets and shawls from Maria.

Mermaid Market Food

The Rocky Point BBQ House is always serving up some great pulled pork sandwiches and racks of BBQ ribs. Additionally, you can purchase fresh-made, grilled sausage and delicious corn bread. Javier and Linda will have several types of Banana leaf wrapped tamales. If you have not tried their tamales, what have you been doing? They are the best in Rocky Point, full of meat and not just masa!

Go say hello to Russ Black at the bar and get some of his specialty adult beverages. There are new cocktails here every week! You can also make a stop by the lady with all the freshly baked sourdough bread. She’s got all the baked goods including cookies and pies. Although not part of the market, there is a small white building in the park that serves up some great cheeseburgers and fries. As a plus, they offer very reasonable prices and everything is hot off the grill.
