About
In 2012 was the ground breaking ceremony for the Convention Center and it opened its doors in May 8th of 2014. The land for the convention center was donated by Gustavo Brown and Reyel Taylor of Sandy Beach Resorts. The building itself was funded by state and federal funding. The total cost for this project was around $110 million pesos!
Building
The Expo Center is a first class, spacious building which can accommodate 3,000 people. It can be divided into 10 different rooms and hold up to 8 different events or meetings at the same time. It also has 2 outdoor areas for events or cocktail parties.
As you enter the building there is a spacious lobby that will hold up to 200 people at a time and there is a lounge area as well. There is ample space to have a registration area as well as bar set ups. In addition, the conference rooms can hold 120 people in theatre style seating. Worried about parking? The parking lot at this center will hold up to 1,000 cars and 14 buses!
Events
Before it was inaugurated, it had already held the Black and White Ball. It also hosted a world class boxing match where local boxing champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada defended his 2 world titles and won. There were 4,000 people who came to see him fight!
So far it has hosted an AA convention, car shows, numerous concerts, Arizona/Sonora Commission meetings and many other conventions. There are plenty of concerts and events taking place, it's best to check their Facebook page for updates. Also, the center rents for events such as weddings and quinceañeras as well! This has become a boost for Puerto Peñasco as it attracts more tourism and revenue for the city. Further, it allows for many people who have never been to Peñasco to experience it with a mix of business and leisure!
