Perched above Incline Village, Diamond Peak Ski Resort symbolizes community unity and the awe-inspiring natural beauty of Lake Tahoe.
Its history dates back to the 1920s when North Lake Tahoe began attracting visitors with the introduction of casino gambling.
The birth of Incline Village and what is now known as Diamond Peak Ski Resort happened in the 1960s. Art Wood, an entrepreneur, envisioned a master-planned vacation resort community with Ski Incline (the original name of Diamond Peak) as a cornerstone of recreation.
Luggi Foeger, an Austrian-born ski resort consultant, was instrumental in selecting the resort's current location, offering various terrains and stunning views of Lake Tahoe.
A significant milestone occurred in 1966, marking Diamond Peak as a pioneer in snowmaking, being the first in the western United States to install such a system. This initiative provided assurance against unpredictable snowfall, and the resort opened with three chair lifts, a T-bar surface lift, and snowmaking equipment.
In the 1980s, to accommodate the growing popularity of skiing in Lake Tahoe, the resort expanded, doubling its skiable acreage and adding more advanced terrain.
This expansion led to a name change to "Diamond Peak at Ski Incline," eventually shortening to "Diamond Peak."
The resort continues to grow, embarking on multimillion-dollar improvement projects to enhance its facilities and snow making capabilities. Most recently, the resort has been updating its Master Plan to explore future development possibilities and introduce summer activities.
