Welcome to

San Pedro

Picture a slim island fringed by white sand and swaying palms, with the Belize Barrier Reef running just offshore. San Pedro sits along the eastern edge of Ambergris Caye, about 35 miles northeast of Belize City. The water here shifts through every shade of blue, and the reef sits close enough to reach by a short boat ride.

There’s no question that people come to Ambergris Caye for diving and snorkeling first. The famous Great Blue Hole and Hol Chan Marine Reserve draw visitors from all over the world. Others come simply to slow down, cruise around by golf cart, and soak up the laid back island rhythm.

Extending south of Mexico’s Quintana Roo on the Caribbean Sea, Ambergris Caye is separated from Mexico by a narrow channel dug by the ancient Maya and linking the Caribbean with Chetumal Bay. Located on the southern part of the island, San Pedro grew from a small fishing village founded in the 1840s. For generations, families here made their living from the sea, harvesting lobster and conch. Tourism arrived later, but the fishing roots still shape the culture and the food.

Speaking of food, you will find fresh seafood everywhere. Try grilled snapper, garnaches, and rice and beans cooked with coconut milk. Local events keep the calendar lively too. Lobster Fest in June celebrates the start of lobster season with street parties, live music, and plenty of dishes to sample. Carnival brings color and dancing every year as well.

Blending adventure, history, diving wonders and warm island hospitality, San Pedro is an ideal Caribbean destination for vibrant culture, a laid-back vibe, and incredible marine life.
