Welcome to

Rockaway Beach

Picture a long ribbon of sand where the forested Coast Range runs down to meet the Pacific. Quiet and unassuming, Rockaway Beach stretches along seven miles of open shoreline between Nehalem Bay and Tillamook Bay, with Twin Rocks rising from the surf at the south end of town.

People come here to slow down. Offering small-town charm, prime fishing, bird’s eye views to spot gray whales migrating, Rockaway Beach is a premier destination for adventure-seekers and beach enthusiasts. With saltwater taffy shops, hot clam chowder, and wide beaches with plenty of room to spread out, families love the easy beach access from the heart of town.

This area began as an isolated coastal resort in 1909 and was one of the first seaside resort towns on the Oregon Coast. The town was incorporated in the 40s as Rockaway, and officially renamed as Rockaway Beach in 1987. History enthusiasts will appreciate how the railroad formed part of the town’s history, as it received its first passenger train in 1912. That rail history lives on with seasonal rides on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, pulled by a vintage steam locomotive.

Outdoor fun fills every season in Rockaway Beach. Fly a kite on the breezy beach, explore tide pools, or dig for clams in Tillamook Bay. Paddle or fish on Lake Lytle, kayak the calm bay waters, or hike forest trails in the nearby Coast Range. Plan an adventure into the 46-acre Rockaway Beach Old Growth Cedar Preserve to see The Big Tree. Standing at over 150 feet tall, this massive Western Red Cedar is believed to be between 500 - 900 years old!

Salt air, ocean views, and golden sunsets are waiting. Book a VueStay Vacations by Casago coastal rental in Rockaway Beach and start planning your escape to Oregon's North Coast.

Most visitors drive. From Portland, take Highway 26 west, then Highway 6 to Tillamook. Head north on Highway 101 for about 14 miles. The trip covers roughly 85 miles and takes around two hours.

Yes! Wide sandy beaches, tide pools, kite flying, and the steam train make it a hit with all ages. Kids also love spotting the Red Caboose downtown and sampling ice cream at the Tillamook Creamery, a short drive south.

The Pacific here stays cold, often in the low 50s, and sneaker waves and rip currents are common. Wading and beachcombing are safer choices. Keep an eye on the surf and never turn your back on the ocean.

Head south to the Tillamook Creamery, Cape Meares Lighthouse, and the Three Capes Scenic Route. To the north, you'll find Manzanita and Nehalem Bay State Park. Garibaldi, just minutes away, offers fresh seafood and fishing charters.
