About
Off the coast of Nayarit lie the Marietas Islands, renowned for their beauty, rich history, and exclusivity. As a protected paradise, these islands offer an eco-tourism adventure.
Shaped by volcanic activity, the islands feature rock formations, pristine waters, and hidden beaches. One popular destination is Playa Escondida, also known as Hidden Beach. This secret paradise was formed by erosion and military testing in the early 1900s and sits within a volcanic crater. Interestingly, it is only accessible by swimming through a rocky tunnel at low tide.
Designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Marieta Islands are a haven for biodiversity. It is home to over 90 marine and avian species, including the famous blue-footed booby.
Don a mask and snorkel and explore the underwater world of these turquoise waters. You can swim with an array of tropical fish, sea turtles, and manta rays. And during winter months, the majestic humpback whales pass by, adding to the destination's allure.
Guided tours include snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, catamaran, and much more. Thrill-seekers can explore on paddleboards, while bird watchers delight in spotting unique species. For the ultimate exploration package, combine a tour of the islands with a visit to Los Arcos. For instance, both offer unique experiences and features that are worth checking out. Afterwards, celebrate your day of adventure at a restaurant in Mismoloya, such as La Choza My Tony.
Preserving this natural paradise is at the forefront of every visitor's experience. The Islands’ eco-tourism model ensures that exploration doesn't harm the delicate ecosystems. Likewise, drones and certain sunscreens are prohibited. Additionally, access to sensitive areas, such as Hidden Beach, is closely monitored.
