Information about the city

With approximately 4 million visitors a year, Puerto Vallarta is a popular tourist town known for its friendly people, colonial architecture, and sweeping views. This 800 square mile city is located between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean on Banderas Bay, 190 miles from Guadalajara, and on the western side of the State of Jalisco. It is one of Mexico’s safest cities.

The weather in Puerto Vallarta is tropical year-round. With over 300 sunny days a year, temperatures range from 60 to 95 degrees. Temperatures in the fall range from 60 to 70 degrees, in the winter from 65 to 85 degrees, and in the spring from the 70s to the 80s. The summer is the quietest month due to the hot and humid weather and more frequent rainfall.

History

Puerto Vallarta Mexico is a city with a rich history. Known as Las Penas in 1800s, it was renamed for the former state governor Ignacio Vallarta in early 1900s. Historically a fishing town that exported agricultural products, it has since come to rely on tourism as its main industry. This all began in the 1960s when the film “The Night of the Iguana” starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor was filmed there, and Burton and Taylor made it their second home.

Activities and attractions

Puerto Vallarta is a great place to visit because there is so much to see and do. Snorkeling, swimming, boat trips, horseback rides, and diving trips are some of the many outdoor activities offered. You will also find fabulous dining options, shopping, ecotourism attractions, museums, two world-class 18-hole golf courses, and a great nightlife. Nearby, you will find zip-lining and canopy tours.

Some of Puerto Vallarta’s highlights include its mariachi music, the El Malecon Boardwalk, the Playa Los Muertos (Beach of the Dead), and Banderas Bay, one of the deepest and largest bays in the world. Ecotourism attractions in the area include the Area Natural Protegida Estero El Salado, an urban estuary, the Islas Marietas National park, Las Caletas beach, south of Puerto Vallarta, and Ocean Friendly Whale Watching Tours.

Popular museums include the Museo del Cuale, a prehistoric museum, and the Museo Naval Secretaria de Marina Armada de Mexico, devoted to the history of the Mexican Navy. The Marigalante is an authentic Spanish galleon built in exact image of Christopher Columbus’s ship the Santa Maria.

Why you should rent a home rather than stay in a hotel

While many people might think staying in a hotel or an all-inclusive resort is convenient, there are many benefits to rental homes. This is especially true if you are traveling with your family or a group of friends. In a rental home, you will enjoy having more space to hang out and all of the comforts of home. This can be relaxing comforting especially after a long day at the beach or sightseeing.

Vacation rentals are less expensive than most hotels and resorts. Having a full kitchen will save you additional money by allowing you to prepare your own breakfasts, snacks, and some meals. Also, rental homes provide you with more freedom to schedule your own days, more privacy, and a feeling of togetherness for your family or friends as you spend quiet evenings on your deck, balcony, or private pool. They can accommodate kids, families of any size, and some are pet-friendly.

Another advantage of rental homes is that they allow you to immerse yourself more in the city and its culture. Staying in a rental home, you will be more likely to mingle with locals and make personal connections. Rental property management companies will help you find unique and charming rentals in Puerto Vallarta Mexico that suit your particular needs such as beachfront rentals.

Final thoughts

Whether you plan to relax at the beach, immerse yourself in the local culture, or roam around the picturesque streets, you are sure to have an incredible time on a Puerto Vallarta vacation. With property management companies to help you find that perfect home away from home, you will have no trouble planning your trip and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
