About High West
David and Jane Perkins founded High West in 2006 after moving to Park City in 2004. David Perkins was previously a biochemist who was inspired to get into the whiskey industry after seeing similarities between the processes of his own work and distilling. High West had humble beginnings, starting as a small, 250-gallon still and Saloon in a stable and garage. Today, they are one of the most internationally recognized whiskey brands. As the first legal distillery in Utah since 1870, they've already made a name for themselves. Additionally, they're the only ski-in distillery in the world!
Tip: To get to the distillery from Park City, make sure you go to their Wanship location. They do have a High West Saloon & Bar near Main Street, so it's easy to select that location on maps instead of the correct one.
The High West Distillery & Tasting Room
The distillery runs tours from Wednesday-Sunday at 11AM-3PM - every hour on the dot. Though this is a free activity, reservations at least two weeks in advance are highly recommended as this is a very popular and unique activity that fills up quickly. They start promptly at the hour, so make sure to arrive at least 15-20 minutes early. The property is quite expansive so even after you arrive you must take a shuttle from the lower parking area to the distillery.
On this tour, you will get to take a full behind-the-scenes tour of the distillery with one of their Whiskey Experts. You will learn the process of distillation, blending, aging, & bottling - the full operation from start to finish. In addition, you will gain knowledge about the history of whiskey in the state of Utah. The end of the tour will leave you in their tasting room where you can choose to participate in a tasting tour. Alcohol is not included in the Distillery Tour.
