Mount Hood

Towering at 11,249 feet, the snow-capped peak of Mount Hood dominates the skyline of northern Oregon. As the highest mountain in the state, and second most climbed peak in the world, Mount Hood commands attention from miles away. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the area for unparalleled recreation and breathtaking scenery. With over 1,000 miles of hiking trails, pristine alpine lakes, and excellent winter sports facilities, it's no wonder it's a vacation hotspot!

As an all-season alpine destination, many activities focus on the main ski centers in the area. This includes Government Camp at the base of Mt. Hood, Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood Meadows, Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, Summit Pass, and family-friendly Cooper Spur Ski Area. In addition to snow and slope enthusiasts, Mt. Hood is a year-round outdoor playground for the whole family. Enjoy family-friendly hikes along the Trillium Lake Loop Trail or spend an adventurous day at the Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl.

Mount Hood is rich with historical importance, as indigenous peoples named the mountain Wy'east long before pioneers arrived. During the 1840s, settlers traveling the Oregon Trail navigated the difficult Barlow Road around the southern flank of the mountain to reach the Willamette Valley. In 1937, the Works Progress Administration completed the historic Timberline Lodge that still operates today.
