About

You know the chant, "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!" So, when your family and friends begin this rant, make a beeline to the Dairy Keen - Home of the Train.

A family-owned business since 1946, Dairy Keen takes pride in its deep-rooted history in Utah. The establishment's story begins with the Mawhinney family, who owned a motel at the time.

When the local Dairy Queen came up for sale, they purchased it, hoping to sell it to another buyer. But bills piled up, and they opted to open the soft serve ice cream for additional income.

But there was a problem: the name. Because they couldn't afford a new sign, they creatively altered "Dairy Queen" to "Dairy Keen." And the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years, the family-owned business grew, and they refurbished and remodeled along the journey.

In 1998, the Mawhinney family knew it was time for a new, larger facility. So, the old establishment closed, and the current location opened.

So, what's up with the train theme? One might think it's a massive amount of ice cream served in containers resembling a train. But that's not the case. There's a colorful outdoor carnival-sized "train" with tables in the cars. While it would be fun to lick ice cream as it circled the store, this train is immobile.

Inside, guests can observe the encased model train layouts with bridges, mountains, and crossings.

But let's get back to the food. While ice cream is the main draw, the menu at Dairy Keen is as diverse as it is delicious. They have classic American burgers and a variety of hearty soups and salads.

So when your tribe begins that annoying chant, rush over to Dairy Keen - Home of the Train. You'll savor the food, fun, and trains at this Heber City staple.
