Central West Coast Michigan

Stretching along the majestic shores of Lake Michigan, this beautiful region draws visitors seeking freshwater beaches, vibrant downtown districts, and outdoor activities. From Grand Rapids to Muskegon and from Grand Haven to Ludington, Michigan’s Central West Coast offers the perfect city escape year-round.

Located along the eastern shores of Lake Michigan - name of which comes from the Ojibwa term “Michi Gami” meaning large lake - this area holds a rich history. Much of the expanse along Michigan’s West Coast was shaped by the lumber boom of the late 19th century. Many coastal towns began as bustling port cities that shipped timber across the Great Lakes. Today, that history lives on in beautifully preserved Victorian architecture, historic lighthouses, and fascinating maritime museums dotting the shoreline.

Michigan’s Central West Coast is home to some of the world’s most pristine freshwater shorelines, along with popular state parks and miles of recreational trails. Spend your days conquering the massive dunes at Silver Lake, charter a fishing boat, or hike the scenic shoreline trails. For another worldly experience, head south to explore Holland, Michigan, known for its Dutch culture, tulip festivals, and charming downtown.

Whether you want a peaceful retreat or an action-packed vacation, Michigan’s Central West Coast will deliver. Additionally, summertime features festivals celebrating local music, food, and culture, while fall transforms foliage into vibrant hues, ideal for apple orchard visits, hiking, and wine-tasting tours.

Whether vacationing as a family, a couple, or a solo adventurer, you'll discover endless recreation tailored to your interests along Michigan’s Central West Coast.
