Cabo Weather
Cabo San Lucas is known for its mild year-round weather, and boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year! Thanks to its arid desert climate, Cabo doesn’t experience the stifling tropical humidity so prevalent in other coastal resorts. When it comes to Cabo weather, the hottest months are June through October, with daytime highs peaking in the low 90’s. From December through February, temperatures range from the 60s to mid-80’s. Annual rainfall is relatively low, ensuring plenty of warm sunshine for outdoor pursuits. The summer months tend to be wetter and are considered low tourist season. If traveling to Cabo during this time, look for off-season discounts.
Arriving at the Cabo San Lucas Airport
The Los Cabos International Airport (airport code: SJD) is located 10 miles from San Jose del Cabo, and welcomes the majority of international visitors arriving by plane. It is Mexico’s fifth largest airport, with service by AeroMexico, American Airlines, Spirit, US Airways, WestJet, Delta, Frontier, and Southwest, in addition to other airlines. In order to fly into the Cabo San Lucas airport, you’ll need a valid passport and tourist card, or FMM, which is included in your airfare. Before landing, you’ll be provided with a customs form that must be presented after you clear Immigration. After you’ve passed through customs with your luggage, you have several options for getting into town.
There are car rental kiosks, as well as taxis and shared airport shuttles – the latter of which can be booked ahead of time for about $15 per person. Before handing over your money for a shuttle bus or cab, make sure the tickets are purchased at an authorized airport stand. SJD is not to be confused with the Cabo San Lucas International Airport (CSL) — a much smaller airfield that is primarily used for private charters and regional flights.
Cabo Transportation Options
Exploring Cabo San Lucas on foot is one of the best ways to enjoy the local sights. While the downtown area is bustling with shops, restaurants, nightclubs and comfortable lodging, most travelers will need to consider other modes of getting around town. Whether you’re shuttling between the 20-mile Tourist Corridor that connects Cabo San Lucas with San Jose del Cabo, or planning day trips farther afield, there are several Cabo transportation options.
For a quick jaunt to one of Cabo’s pretty beaches, water taxis are available at the downtown marina. Fares can range from $4-$12 one-way, depending on the destination. Public buses are a cheap way to travel around Cabo on a shoestring budget, but owing to the frequent stops, this mode is more time-intensive. Taxis are widely available and very convenient, but fares can be expensive. For example, a 20-mile journey will set you back at least $45. Always agree on a fixed price with your driver before setting off.
Renting a vehicle allows a certain freedom to explore the area at your own pace. To rent a vehicle in Mexico, you need a current driver’s license and you will also be required to purchase full liability insurance.
