About

While hurricanes are destructive forces of nature, one storm inspired a woman in Placencia to act on her passions. When Hurricane Iris struck Belize in 2001, Ms. Wendy decided to quit her longstanding waitress job and open Wendy's Creole Food. Serving time-honored Belizean favorites, this small fast-food shop stands as one of the village's most recognized dining spots.

Since opening in 2002, Wendy’s family has added new dishes, expanded the kitchen and bar, and renovated the building to seat more guests. What began as a quick-bite counter is now a full-service restaurant and bar serving Belizean, Creole, and international cuisine across breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

In 2022, Wendy's celebrated 20 years of service! It marked the loyal customers who returned year after year and the family that kept its promise to serve the best food possible.

Few restaurants reach such an anniversary, and fewer still do it while staying true to where they started. For travelers seeking real Belizean cooking, Wendy's offers history on every plate.

Vibe

Only steps away from the Placencia Pier, the two-story restaurant is easy to spot. Its multicolored roof sign marks the entrance to the covered wraparound porch. Here, diners sit beneath ceiling fans to dine and relax, while the main entrance ushers you into the heart of Wendy’s.

The interior features warm tones, casual seating, and clean tables. Personal touches are found throughout, highlighting the fact that this is a family operation. The low-key atmosphere means that the focus is on the food and the people sharing it.

The dining options suit any occasion, from the aforementioned porch area to the indoor tables to the expanded bar. Whether grabbing breakfast before snorkeling at the Belize Barrier Reef or celebrating a day at Xunantunich Mayan Ruins with dinner, this easygoing ambiance is exactly what a Belize vacation calls for.

Opening at 7:30 a.m. means you can fuel up before a day at the Great Blue Hole or sightseeing. The Spanish breakfasts feature eggs cooked to your liking with beans, house-made salsa, and your choice of toast, tortillas, or fry jacks. You can add meat for an additional cost. You’ll also find American and Belizean classics, ensuring something for everyone.

Come lunchtime, the various fajita combinations will appeal after hiking at Mayflower Bocawina National Park. From seasonal lobster to chicken, shrimp, seafood combo, beef, and vegetarian, there’s a fajita waiting for you to discover. Also available are an assortment of sandwiches, quesadillas, and burritos.

The dinner offerings showcase Wendy’s Creole favorites, including lobster, fish, and her crowning entree, the cheesy shrimp. This tasty entree features fresh prawns sauteed in a tomato salsa, then topped with cheddar cheese.

Another favorite is the vegetarian coconut curry stew. This tasty dish features sauteed veggies, potatoes, and cilantro in a decadent sauce crafted with curry and coconut. Add the coconut rice, and it’s a filling meal.

Fans of land-based fare will delight in the steaks, chops, and chicken offerings. But a handheld not to be missed is the Jalapeno Jumbo Burger! This monstrosity features two hamburger patties with sliced cheese, bacon, fresh cucumbers, red onions, and jalapenos. It comes with a side of fries, making it a satisfying meal on your Belize vacation.

Drinks match the quality of the food, with milkshakes and fresh-squeezed juices for the kids. These range from papaya, mango, and hibiscus juices to unique shakes like papaya and one featuring peanut butter with seaweed!
