Welcome to

Schweitzer Mountain - North Central Idaho

Dense evergreen forests and sweeping views stretching into three states and Canada await you at Schweitzer Mountain - Idaho’s largest ski resort! From 2,900 acres of skiable terrain to scenic summer chairlift rides and biking trails, outdoor recreation thrives here through all four seasons.

Winter brings abundant snowfall, making Schweitzer a premier destination for snowboarding, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing. During the summertime, visitors take advantage of miles of hiking trails, downhill mountain biking, and huckleberry picking. Down in the valley, Lake Pend Oreille provides endless opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming.

Idaho’s premier ski resort in Northern Idaho towers 2,000 feet above the quaint town of Sandpoint in the basin below. Surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Selkirk Mountains, Sandpoint sits on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille - Idaho’s largest and deepest lake. When out on the slopes, Schweitzer Bowl provides spectacular views of the mountainous landscape and Lake Pend Oreille’s impressive reach. Fun fact: The U.S. Navy has tested submarine technology at Lake Pend Oreille for over 65 years!

While a majority of visitors to Schweitzer Mountain travel from the Pacific Northwest, this top ski destination is highly accessible as it’s just 85 miles northeast of Spokane's International Airport.

Aside from outdoor activities, history enthusiasts will find the region fascinating. Originally explored by David Thompson in the early 1800s, the area later boomed with the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railway. Schweitzer itself was named after an eccentric Swiss hermit who lived at the base of the basin in the 1890s, adding a touch of local lore to the mountain's rich heritage.
