About
Every getaway destination has a go-to place, and for a lot of people in San Carlos, that place is Tortuga's. It opened in 2015 and quickly became known for fresh ingredients, inventive recipes, and a real passion for the business.
Brothers Ernie and Ed Brown founded Tortuga's to create a friendly, welcoming environment that showcased quality food and service. That relaxed dining experience has grown into a real favorite with locals and visitors. It's right over the marina, a bit of an international feel with a lot of local flavor, and you can taste the quality in every dish.
Tortuga's is more than just a restaurant really; it's a place to hang out. You can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and all sorts of things in between. The kitchen is very varied, with everything from traditional Mexican breakfasts right through to some rather inventive seafood and wood-fired pizzas. There are regular live music nights, loads of events and a very welcoming staff, so it's a great place to go whether you're just popping in for a coffee or you're there for a proper long meal with friends.
Vibe
Tortuga's is very easy to spot with its marina-facing patio, the umbrellas, and the lovely outdoor seating area, which is just inviting you to sit and hang out. Inside, you have a nice, stylish but comfortable dining room with nautical touches, somelocal art, and loads of windows to let in the light and the views of the yachts. It's a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere with the usual buzz of the restaurant and the occasional song from the live band.
Seating options are shaded terrace tables (perfect if you want to watch the boats), cozy booths inside for a more private meal, and the bar area, which is great if you want to just hang out with the locals or catch a game. The decor is a good mix of modern and beachy with soft lighting, wood and a bit of tropical feel. Service is consistently lauded, and the 'come as you are' atmosphere is a big part of what people love.
Tortuga’s: Menu & Drinks
The cuisine showcases international flavors. A good example is the Coconut Shrimp that is very crispy and sweet, and comes with a very tangy mango dipping sauce, which everyone seems to love. The Huevos Rancheros for breakfast are excellent too, with perfectly cooked eggs, the house salsa, and the warm tortillas. If you're in the mood for pizza, their wood-fired pies are absolutely superb, with fresh ingredients and a bubbling-hot finish.
Seafood fans should definitely try the 'Catch of the Day', typically some form of grilled fish or shrimp with the usual seasonal sides and a sauce of the day. The drinks menu is pretty good too, with a range of mojitos, margaritas, and various house cocktails, which are great to have as the sun goes down over the marina. Their homemade desserts are a must-try, particularly the chocolate lava cake.
Dining at Tortuga's promises great food and a setting you'll want to linger in on a San Carlos getaway.
