About

The smell of wood smoke, sizzling garlic, and fresh seafood is the first thing you're greeted with as you approach the brightly coloured palapa roofs of La Manga Restaurante Doña Rosita. It's been around for over 20 years, started by Doña Rosita and her family as a very simple family kitchen for the fishermen. It's become a real local institution, and a must-stop for anyone who wants to eat authentic Sonoran food and the very best seafood from the Sea of Cortez. It's all about the home cooking and the hospitality. It began as a family kitchen for the fishermen and has grown into a real community hub.

Doña Rosita's legacy continues through her children and grandchildren who still run the kitchen and are just as keen to welcome you in as she was. It's all about simplicity and quality, really. Local produce, family recipes, and a very relaxed atmosphere in which you're encouraged to just take your time and enjoy the food. It doesn't matter if you're there for a long lazy lunch or a sunset dinner, La Manga Restaurante is a place where you can taste the history and the heart of coastal Sonora.

Vibe

The restaurant is a proper escape, right on the water's edge in the tranquil fishing village of La Manga. The open-air palapa is shaded by the palms, with the usual rustic wooden tables and bright plastic chairs. There are plenty of papel picado banners, and the floor is sand, so you can kick off your shoes and just have your toes in the sand.

The atmosphere is very welcoming and unhurried, with fishermen pulling their boats up to the quay and families out in force with large seafood platters and plenty of icy beers. There's occasionally a local band who will turn up and play a few songs. The reviews are all about the friendly and very attentive staff, the sheer quality of the setting and the real sense of being in the local community (no fakery at all, just good food and good company).

La Manga Restaurante Doña Rosita: Menu & Drinks

The menu is absolutely heaven for a seafood fan. The 'Pescado Zarandeado' is the house special: whole fish marinated in a special spice mix, grilled over an open flame, and served with fresh lime, onions, and warm tortillas. The ceviche mixto is also excellent, loaded with shrimp, octopus, fish, and just the right amount of serrano chile for a real kick.

Don't miss the "Camarones al Mojo de Ajo" (garlicky shrimp, cooked to perfection and served sizzling hot) or the "Tacos Gobernador" (a huge taco full of shrimp, cheese, and sautéed peppers). The salsas and pickled vegetables are all made in-house and are made fresh every day. To drink, you can have a michelada or an agua fresca, and to finish the meal, you can have a slice of flan or a fruit popsicle.

Eating at La Manga Restaurante Doña Rosita is about fresh-off-the-boat seafood, the culture, and the hospitality that will be a highlight of your Mexican getaway.
