Sandy Beach is one of the best walking beaches in Puerto Peñasco as it is flat and hard packed sand from the tides. It is also home to 15 condominium resorts, 3 hotels and one golf course. Sandy Beach started to explode in the late 1990’s with the construction of La Princesa as the 1st development. Recently the Sonoran Resort Group announced the construction of their 5 the development to be named Sonoran Star which will be located between Playa Bonita Hotel and Las Gaviotas condos. The golf course at Las Palomas is a challenging course and is set within the Sonoran desert sand dunes.

All of the development has been good for Rocky Point as it has put many people to work not only in construction but also in the hospitality industry.  Beside all the house cleaning staff for all of the properties, you also have a lot of staff in the restaurants that are located within the resorts and the free standing restaurants.

When you stay on Sandy Beach you can also choose from Garufa (Argentine Steakhouse), Banditos and Changos beside the resort restaurants and bars.  Garufa is an upscale chain from the south of Mexico featuring great cuts of beef as well as seafood dishes and pastas.  Puerto Peñasco is the first of their place that is located in a tourist beach town and it has been very successful since the day they opened.  Changos and Banditios feature bar food and music on most weekends.  Sandy Beach is also where the Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers concerts are held.

They also have a great Happy Hour with live music and tasty food.  Playa Bonita is also home to beach volleyball tournaments. At Penasco del Sol, you can dine inside or sit poolside sipping a cocktail.  No matter where you stay, you can take in the beautiful sunsets over the Baja. In the winter months, see the whales and Dolphin passing by.
