It is a peaceful retreat for parents or a couple who want their morning coffee in the fresh air. The second queen bedroom brings warmth with an orange accent wall, an upholstered headboard, and a cedar chest at the foot of the bed. A wide window looks into the trees, and a small writing desk, wooden dresser, mirrored closet, and wall-mounted TV make it a great fit for a couple or anyone catching up on work. Bedroom 3 is built for kids and friends, with a wooden bunk bed of two double beds dressed in crisp white bedding. A wide window frames the evergreens, and a TV is ready for downtime after a day in the park. The living room sofa sleeps additional guests. Bathrooms All three bathrooms are full baths, so mornings move quickly even with a full house. Living Areas The living room is the heart of the cabin, with knotty pine walls, a vaulted ceiling crossed with dark beams, and large windows filled with trees. Two leather sofas and a green armchair gather around a wooden coffee table on a patterned rug, facing a freestanding wood stove on a tiled hearth and a flatscreen TV with cable. A ceiling fan, board games, and children's books and toys round out the space for slow evenings in. Kitchen & Dining The L-shaped kitchen has warm wood cabinets and a peninsula breakfast bar with stools, so someone can always pull up a seat while the cook works. Full-size appliances include a stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher, along with a coffee maker, blender, toaster, baking sheet, and wine glasses. Just beyond, a long wooden dining table sits beneath a geometric pendant light beside a sliding glass door to the deck, with a view out to the forest. Decks & Forest Setting The cabin opens to a wraparound deck where you can fire up the gas grill, eat outdoors at the dining table, and take in mountain views through tall pine and cedar trees. Look out over the meadow of ferns, the seasonal creek, and the giant boulder that inspired the Big Rock name. A covered deck framed in timber beams offers shade and shelter, and additional deck spaces with chairs and small tables give everyone a quiet spot to read or watch the light change through the pines. The place is right next to Yosemite national park.
The one positive of this rental is the proximity to the entrance to Yosemite National Park. However, that does not make up for the difficulties that we had. Upon our arrival the fridge was room temperature. The guidance we received from the checkin instructions was that it could take up to 24 hours for the fridge to cool off! We had already stayed at two other rentals on our trip prior to this one and neither fridge needed time to cool before using it. We reached out to Vacasa customer service 3 hours later when it was clear the fridge was not working. They said they would have a technician out the next morning to look at the fridge. however, it was not until 4pm the following day that we learned the fridge needed a new fan and it would take a week for the part to arrive. When we asked for a replacement fridge (even a mini-fridge would have been better than nothing), we were told that was not possible, but we would receive a refund to account for any of the food we had lost. We had purchased all of the food that we needed for our 5 day/4 nights stay prior to our arrival to the rental because we have two children with severe food allergies and need to purchase specific allergy safe food. We would not be able to eat out at any of the restaurants in the area and would need to cook all of our meals. For this reason we intentionally chose a rental with a full kitchen - including a fridge. We had to take time out of our vacation at the National Park to drive 30 minutes away to replace food that we lost, purchase a hard sided cooler and ice to keep perishables cold. When I reached out on 2 occasions to the local VACASA representative about how much the refund would be, I received no response. I finally called the 1-800 # on the day we checked out and learned we would be refunded $60 which in no way accounted for the loss of food, time taken to replace food, the cost of gas ($6/gallon!) to drive to the nearest larger town to replace food, the cost of a cooler and ice, and the overall inconvenience of not having a working fridge during our stay. Frankly, it was an insult. We eventually got VACASA to refund us $185 but that too was insufficient for the headache we endured. In addition, two of the beds were missing top sheets when we arrived. When we requested them, we were given 1 top sheet and 1 fitted sheet. When I reached out again, I got no response. The rest of the home was adequate for our needs and accommodated our group of 4 adults and 4 kids. However, the kitchen and bathrooms are dated. Bottom line - If you are looking for a rental which responds promptly and adequately to major and minor issues that arise, look elsewhere!!
We enjoyed the proximity to the park and the ability to get some relaxation in the evenings.
This was a great house. Easy to find. Clean and stocked with cooking items. Beds were comfortable which was great after long days of hiking in Yosemite. Location was great being minutes from the entry to park and having the general store at bottom of hill for drinks, ice, and snacks and a pizza/restaurant just minutes up the road. Would recommend bringing a cooler with food since closest real grocery store was 30 minutes to town.
We loved everything! What a gorgeous location, very comfy for our family of six. Each couple had a room and there were also three bathrooms. We all had plenty of space. We enjoyed cooking family dinners, and using the gas grill on the deck, a lovely living room with a warm wood-burning stove, finished out the nights. This Home is about a 45 minute drive to the iconic tunnel view, it’s also right near the Mariposa Grove, and within 15 minutes of bass Lake for those who want to fish. We found it to be an excellent location for all that we were doing over a long weekend. Vacasa was great to communicate with, and we truly had everything we needed. The master bedroom mattress was extremely comfortable, and each room had plenty of blankets and box fans. We would recommend this to anyone!
