Great location!
This was a great place to stay on our first trip to Yosemite Valley. The proximity of it eliminates the stress of trying to get through the park gates early in the morning since the home is already in the park. The unit was clean, well stocked, and great views. It was also within waking distance of some cool trails like the fire lookout. The WiFi was very reliable while we were there too, which is big because cell service there is almost non existent. It was also very quiet at night so you can get a good nights rest and recharge for the next day. Some things we’d like to see improve if we were to stay again: 1.) Based on the previous reviews the beds seemed to have been replaced. They weren’t awful but they weren’t great either. One was pretty firm and the other really soft. So soft that you sink into it almost like sleeping on a hammock. The bunk beds creak really loud so if you have kids that move around a lot at night it may keep you awake. 2.) The listing is titled as home but it’s a just the first floor (it does say that on the listing description as well). What it doesn’t say is that someone (maybe the host?) may be onsite while you are there. On arrival it was just us but the next evening we saw an extra vehicle when we got back and heard someone moving around upstairs. It was weird. We messaged the management company if they were going to be there for the duration of our stay (just so we are aware) but they said they weren’t sure since they don’t manage the upstairs unit. It wasn’t a huge deal because we were gone most the day. They were usually pretty quiet and seemed like they did their best to stay out of the way. Even if the management company doesn’t have any details of the upstairs unit they should know it can be occupied at any time and it should be a disclaimer on the listing. If we knew ahead of time we would’ve been fine with it. 3.) When we arrived the power was out. We didn’t know if it was just the house or a local outage. After looking around I found the meter and saw it was blank as well as the neighbors meter too, turned out it was the entire neighborhood. The power came back on a couple hours later. We know power outages can be frequent due to fire mitigation efforts in the area and it’s out of managements control. However, when the power was out so was the WiFi. With no cell service we couldn’t contact management to get any details either. A land line or a satellite phone in the unit would be huge help.
The place itself was nice and very convenient to Yosemite Valley, and we did have a good overall stay. Unfortunately, we specifically chose this property because of the sauna, and it never worked during our visit and was unable to be fixed. We booked well in advance and had many properties to choose from, so I do wish we had known ahead of time that the sauna was not operational, as it was a major reason we selected Granite Tranquility.
The place was wonderful. It was quiet. We loved our stay. The house is beautiful.
