Pros - close to beach and pool, AC works, Keurig coffee maker and cold fridge Cons - rotted door that won’t close or lock. It has been eroding for a long time. Whole door frame needs to be replaced. Dishwasher leaks. Downstairs shower head came out of the wall and not usable One usable sort of pan that is about 20 years old and hard to clean No oven mitts so you better not burn yourself like I did Daughter got major hives from either her bunk bed or the beach. They kept doubling in amounts after she would sleep in the bed. No TV in the master room. Sliding door in master doesn’t lock, they have a piece of wood board to hopefully keep in safe and closed. No lights on the balcony to enjoy the ocean views at night. No gate on the balcony so if you have kids or a dog, you have to use a chair to avoid them falling down the stairs. Upstairs sink doesn’t drain properly This house is falling apart. Owners should update before renting out at the prices they charged us, I would never stay here again. Front door is hard to lock shut: sometimes it worked and sometimes it wouldn’t lock.
The only thing I loved was the view from the master. Unfortunately, I didn’t go out there from fear of falling over the 18” piece of rusty siding. We put a chair over it for safety. I’ve stayed many places at the Lost Colony. Never will stay at this particular house again.
Really delightful place. Absolutely perfect location. Perfectly clean. Plenty of toilet paper. and there really is shampoo and conditioner And soap. Hope to return.
We enjoyed our five nights in May at Rock the Boat! After reading some recent reviews, I was a little concerned about the condition of the house, but after staying there, I think some of those concerns were simply the result of salt air being hard on beachfront properties. We found the home to be very clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and there were thoughtful touches throughout the house that made it feel like a place the owners genuinely care about. The views from the main-level kitchen and living room were beautiful, and the view from the master bedroom balcony was especially wonderful. It was such a treat to wake up, open my eyes, and see the gulf while still lying in bed! As mentioned in the listing, the WiFi was a bit spotty at times, but it was never a problem for us. The walk to the beach was short and easy, and we especially appreciated the shower and hose along the beach access walkway for rinsing off sand before heading back inside. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely consider returning to this property.
The proximity to the beach was great. You can see the water from the balconies, and the complex pool was fine. They do allow pets, which was a major draw for us. This place has a lot of potential, but it needs a deep cleaning and maintenance work completed. To name a few issues…the pots and pans are in poor quality; dead cockroaches left on the floor; metal framing on the balcony door was coming off and badly rusted; kitchen cabinets are dirty on inside and out; walls and doors have dirt/marks on them; couches in poor condition; 2 mattresses upstairs were uncomfortable; baseball-size dust ball left in bedroom closet; and internet had poor connection. Lastly, just a warning to those staying anywhere near the sand dunes, watch out for rattlesnakes. My husband and dog saw a 4 foot one in the complex parking lot one evening.
My husband, mom, small dog and myself stayed at this beach house over Spring Break. My husband is a teacher and this is the only time we can take vacation in the spring. Pros: Rock the Boat is an affordable beach house that accepts pets, has a terrific view with an easy walk to the beach. Cons: This is mainly a con of Port A for families over Spring Break this year. I had hoped we would be far enough from the Spring Break craziness. However, each day around 3-4pm, Spring Breakers got out of control with their large loud trucks and golf carts driving recklessly down the beach, drinking, and music BLARING. I'm not a Karen and want everyone to have a good time and we're not ones to complain or report behavior to authorities, we usually just leave the situation. It was dangerous to walk or be on the beach because of the fear of being run over by a drunk underage driver. Since we were mainly there for relaxation on the beach, this dampened our trip. I realize we could have driven to another beach, but the point was to enjoy our beach house and the beach/ocean a few steps away. I imagine it is MUCH quieter at a different time. This is no fault of property management, owners, nor authorities. The local police, Corpus Christie Police, and even the Texas National Guard were trying to get a handle on it by the time we left on Friday. Other Cons: This unit is in desperate need of a little TLC. It's in desperate need of painting on the inside and just multiple small "repairs", like a loose tile that we kept tripping over. After check out, I let management know that we found the front door lock very hard to get to work (we've stayed at numerous properties and rarely have this issue after a few tries), the main level balcony door very hard to lock and the lack cleanliness of the main level bedroom and kitchen counters. You also wouldn't want to sit/lay on the patio loungers without a towel over the cushions. This wasn't bad enough to move to another unit or deal with the inconvenience of them recleaning, but that's why I gave 3 stars for cleanliness. This unit and I believe most of Lost Colony is advertised as pet friendly, which is one of the main reasons we booked here and we saw many dogs. However, the grassy areas are filled with stickers. Even the "dog area" at the front is filled with them, so beware and check their paws. Bottom line, it is what it is...a worn affordable beach house. But if you can overlook the con's or if they're addressed, you'll have beautiful views from the balconies and easy walk to the beach.
