Overview

Almost all of the materials used in its construction likely came from the supply of discarded packing crates at the naval shipyard in nearby Bremerton where work was being done to support the war effort. Everything here is original, there are no frills. This is a perfect place to relax, read, write, draw, or take relaxing walks through the neighborhood or along the beach out front where you can collect shells, toss footballs, build sand castles, or just marvel at the many sights. This truly distinctive home is comfortable and rather unique, not only in its origins, but also its furnishings which are mainly antiques from the 1940s and 1950s from designers such as George Nelson, Charles and Rae Eames, and Alvo Aalto. When you want to get out and explore, a corner coffee shop is just minutes away, while the charming main street is just a bit farther with a grocery store, restaurants, clothing stores, and a bookshop. It's also just a 30-minute ferry ride to Seattle, or you can take the ferry to the exciting shopping, dining, and museums that await you north in Victoria, BC. This historic cottage was divine- the herons, seals and eagles welcomed us and we so enjoyed the comfy beds, the fun puzzles, the efficient assortment of coffee maker(s!), the quiet and finding deep sleep listening to the waves each night.

We loved the location and the view. It was clean and the bed comfortable. A bit hard to get into the bath when you’re a bit older. And some of the chairs were a bit uncomfortable.

This cottage is older and not modern and this was one of the top things we loved about it. Our teenage daughter loved it too and wasn't on her phone nearly as much as she could be. This is due mainly to the magnificent views, the location and the super close proximity to the water! And oh my, all of the nature and wildlife sightings we breathtaking. We were so relaxed and we cooked every night and morning. What a perfect time of year to visit as well. We will definitely be back.

Would definitely stay again! This home was actually more spacious than I envisioned. We rented a car and it was super easy to drive it onto the ferry to get to bainbridge island! The home is the best place to relax. I love the simplicity and being able to watch the waves and sea lions from the porch. The owners have tons of books to choose from, I kinda wish I wouldn’t have brought my own :) Kitchen has everything we needed including a coffee maker and convection oven/toaster — we were also delighted to find a pack n play! The kids room is sweet and cozy with kids books and a few small toys as well :)
