The Blue Ox offers a memorable waterfront retreat with generous gathering spaces, a large well-equipped kitchen, and room for families and friends to relax together. Guests consistently praise the comfortable furnishings, cozy beds, quality linens, bright welcoming interiors, cleanliness, and thoughtful decor. Its waterfront setting provides easy beach access and is conveniently close to local shopping, dining, hiking, and Olympic National Park. Sweeping water and mountain views, along with wildlife sightings, create an exceptional Pacific Northwest backdrop. Guests enjoyed kayaking, collecting oysters, outdoor seating, outdoor cooking areas, and games for time together.

Overview

This east-facing home enjoys a private stretch of waterfront on the flat, rocky shores of Hood Canal. There's so much to keep you at home here, but there's also much to explore, from lovely Lake Cushman (nine miles) to the vast network of trails in neighboring Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park. The house was seemingly designed for gathering with friends and family, beginning with the expansive waterfront patio. Take your pick of multiple seating vignettes in both sun and shade, pull up a stool for a cold drink at the outdoor bar, and admire the incredible view as you barbecue and dine alfresco. The interior is a showcase of the natural setting as well, thanks to large picture windows and an open floor plan brimming with sunlight. Whether you're setting up a board game, streaming movies in the living room, or preparing and sitting down to a homemade meal, you'll never lose sight of the water. Of the the three serene bedrooms, one is a primary suite with an attached bunk nook for little kids; another opens directly to the back patio. Central air conditioning, a washer/dryer, and complimentary WiFi are provided as well. Things to Know Check-in time: 4:00 PM. Check-out time: 10:00 AM. All guests shall abide by the good neighbor policy and shall not engage in illegal activity. Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. No smoking is permitted anywhere on the premises.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Blue Ox! This place is truly something special. The location right on the Hood Canal is incredible, and waking up to those beautiful water views was easily one of our favorite parts of the trip. The house itself was comfortable, welcoming, and had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time together. We loved being able to spend time outside, enjoy the water, and take in all the beauty surrounding the property. It felt like the perfect Pacific Northwest getaway, peaceful, beautiful, and still close enough to Hoodsport, Lake Cushman, and Olympic National Park to make exploring easy. And honestly, I cannot wait to come back. While we loved being here in the beautiful weather, I kept thinking about how AMAZING this place would be in the off-season. I can picture coming back when it's rainy and chilly, cozying up inside, watching the water, playing games, cooking a big meal, and just enjoying the peacefulness of the property. It seems like the kind of place that would be magical in every season. The Blue Ox is one of those places where you don't just go to stay somewhere, you actually want to linger and enjoy the house and the setting. We will absolutely be back!

Hood Canal is special in so many ways. The Blue Ox had a generous outdoor area with steps that lead directly into the canal at high tide. Really, what more do you need? While here, we actually saw a pod of orcas come thru ( we think they were eating the Chinook salmon that were running thru). Our 12 + local harbor seals all gave them a wide berth and stayed close to shore. Top all this off with the bald eagle who lived in a massive Douglas Fir just north of us. We had the pleasure of watching it daily too.

From the minute I put down my bags, I knew this was home for the next couple of days. A welcome basket of a foil pan, oil, turkey gravey packet, aluminum foil and Turkey Baster was a welcomed surprise. Beds, linens and towels were comfy and amazing. Everything I could want to use in a kitchen was there. Considering I made the thanksgiving dinner from scratch, I was very impressed to say the least. Games, cards, kayaks just made our 2 days together that much more perfect. While I was cooking, I didn’t feel bad for not being down at the beach with the kids because they were right outside the window. Seals and the oysters couldn’t have been closer. Believe it or not, this house turned into our home for a minute and couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
