Immerse yourself in the tropical landscapes of the Placencia Peninsula at Black Orchid, a treehouse-style cabana with plenty of light coming in through the large windows. Your cabana is equipped with a kitchenette that includes a refrigerator, freezer, blender, juicer, microwave, electric stove, toaster oven, and coffee maker to make snacks or meals. For a change of pace, try the common BBQ area with picnic seating and sear something on the grill. Walk home from the beach each afternoon to dine outside on the veranda, take a nap in the hammock, and curl up to watch your streaming favorites on the Netflix-equipped smart TV. This property is located in Surfside, a five-minute walk from the beach and the Caribbean Sea. You can choose to spend the day relaxing in the sun, fishing, snorkeling around the coral reef, or chartering a boat to take out on the water. There's a miniature golf course within walking distance, as well as a number of restaurants, bars, and a supermarket in Surfside. THINGS TO KNOW No on-site pool available, however, most resorts in Maya Beach will offer pool access if food or drinks are purchased. The nearest resort with these facilities is a 5-minute walk away. AC is available in the bedrooms only. 2 bikes in the property (subject to availability) at no extra cost. There are stairs to reach the house and ladder steps to get to the living space on the mezzanine level. Laundry service is available for a cost.

The tree house was such a nice affordable getaway! I was pleasantly surprised to find everything I needed to cook light meals. The house was clean and impressively well built. The location is a little remote but we rented bikes and got into Placencia with no problem on the bike path. The only “problem” was that our favorite thing was the porch hammock and there was only one, so we had to take turns. The picnic table is nice but it almost takes up too much space on the porch and would be better in the kitchen. More chairs that are comfortable for relaxing on the lovely porch in the trees would make this place perfect.

If heavy rains are expected, you will be wading through a flood to get in and out of the unit. The flood may or may not be septic, as our toilet didn’t work while there and no one replied to calls or WhatsApp’s. Will not return

There was everything wrong with this place. Don’t stay here. Worst place I’ve ever booked and we ended up having to find a different accommodation.

This place sucks. DO NOT STAY HERE! Many small complaints: Toaster oven didn't work. No linens for folding bed / futon. Etc. But the two dealbreakers are: 1) Saying the place has air-conditioning isn't exactly a lie, but is misleading. (What?) Over half of the windows are open screen: no glass, no louvres. So you're welcome to run the AC all you want, but there's no way to keep the cool air in the whole apartment. It works just dandy in the bedroom, but that doesn't prevent the loft (with the folding bed, where my child was going to sleep) from being **unbearably** hot. 2) The apartment is extremely close to the highway. (It is also several miles from Placencia village, which is a different complaint.) Combined with the open window screens, this means that road noise is seriously disruptive and a real bummer, e.g. the occasional motorbike in the middle of the night. We slept here one night and moved to a different place in the morning. Screw this place.
